Lionel Messi made waves when he made the shocking move to Inter Miami. Overnight, his move to the MLS became so hyped that soccer fever went on there. His performances for Inter Miami further fueled the ‘Messi Mania’ with fans ready to pay enormous amounts to watch the Argentine play.
However, Lionel Messi is now more than a soccer star. Because now the World Cup winner has also joined the world of cinematography with a documentary about his transfer and also recently teased an animation about him coming out.
Lionel Messi announces $400bn industry venture
On his social media platforms, Lionel Messi let fans watch a short preview of an animated series he has been working on. The series is being made in association with Sony Music Entertainment, whose artists will produce original music for the series and Sony Pictures Television – Kids.
The video shared showed Messi dribbling at first, and then as an animated kid version of himself, along with a small robot-like thing. He wrote the caption, ‘Work in progress’ with a winking emoji.
With this initiative, Messi has joined the massive $400 billion industry, which could see him line up his pockets with more money. It is clear that the Messi brand is in high demand now and everyone wants to use it for global attention.
The show is named ‘Messi and the Giants’ and the former Barcelona legend will be featured as a 12-year-old kid. According to The Wrap, the series “depicts a 12-year-old Messi as he confronts various obstacles while traveling throughout a video game on a quest to go home.”
The animated series is aimed mainly at kids and upcoming teens and will feature themes and messages of hard work, determination, resilience and how to be a team player. It will be available in many languages, including English and Spanish, to gain worldwide coverage.
“Messi Meets America” documentary set to air on Apple TV+
Aside from the show business venture, Lionel Messi is also in a documentary for Apple TV+. Aptly named ‘Messi Meets America’, it will be about the Argentine’s arrival in Miami for the club. The documentary will release on Apple TV+, with the premiere on Wednesday.
It’s not surprising to see Apple TV+ involved, as it was well known that the brand worked with Inter Miami and the MLS to bring Messi to the States. Apple TV+ is also the main streaming partner of the MLS and has been hugely benefited by Messi’s arrival, which has brought much attention to the streaming service.
In fact, the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner will also receive a slice of any profits related to the venture and already Marca reports that one million new MLS season pass subscriptions have been bought, highlighting Messi’s influence.
With Lionel Messi venturing into other fields, the game of soccer is only going to receive more fame through it. Though we won’t see Messi on the pitch for Miami in four months due to Inter Miami missing the playoff spots, we can witness him in these two new initiatives.
