Cristiano Ronaldo is a name that has been heard by almost everyone in the world. The Portuguese has won it all in the sport of soccer and is one of the greatest players in the history. He is widely recognized as a great athlete by many fans around the globe, and his actions are followed by them.
One of his famous and iconic celebrations is the ‘Siuuuu’ celebration. Even fellow athletes pay tribute to him after victories and achievements. But how did Ronaldo come up with the iconic celebration? Let’s find out!
How did Cristiano Ronaldo come up with ‘Siuuuu’ celebration?
The iconic celebration involves jumping in the air, and then turning mid air and landing with your arms outstretched. The main part is the ‘Siu’ shout which means yes in Spanish. The celebrations is so synonymous with the player that no one even really knows when he even started it.
Cristiano Ronaldo himself explained the origins in an interview in 2019. It happened during a match against Chelsea and explained how the celebration came instinctively. He said, “We were playing against Chelsea and I just scored a goal. And I did Siuuu. To be honest, it was natural and, since then, I started to do it. I feel the fans’ support when they see me do the Cristiano Siuuu celebration. I say ‘wow.’ Since then, I have continued like that.”
As he was at Real Madrid, he said ‘sii’, the Spanish word for yes. It seems that the fans really resonated with the celebration and to honor them, Ronaldo never stopped doing it, and it has made him even more iconic and recognized around the world. He has continued to use it for the various teams he has played for.
Ronaldo’s previous iconic ‘calma’ celebration
Before the ‘Siuuuu’ celebration, Ronaldo was known for another of his iconic celebrations. It was during 2012 during a game at Camp Nou. At the time, the two teams were the best in the world, and the match was even more heated at the time.
The game was 1-1 and it was almost close to being a draw, but Ronaldo managed to score in the last minutes. The goal also secured the La Liga trophy against Barcelona at their home ground, and the home fans were stunned to silence. Ronaldo then brought out his famous celebration, the ‘calma’ celebration. He produced a gesture to say to the fans to calm down who were screaming at him the whole game. The celebration is still remembered to this day, as one that shut up a whole packed stadium.
Cristiano Ronaldo will have plenty of chances to showcase his celebrations for both Portugal and Al-Nassr in the coming months. What’s your favourite CR7 moment? Make sure to tell us in the comments section.
