The Baltimore Ravens, led by quarterback Lamar Jackson, shut down their divisional rival Cleveland Browns with a 28-3 victory last month. When the Ravens faced off against the team in the week 10 match, they were clearly the favorites to win.
However, on a day when Browns signal-caller Deshaun Watson sustained a season-ending injury, they managed to give a blow to the Ravens by smashing them with a 33-31 victory. The day also made headlines for some controversial incidents, including the Ravens’ left tackle Ronnie Stanley’s notorious hit.
How much did the NFL fine Ronnie Stanley?
During the recent game against the Cleveland Browns, a player from the Baltimore Ravens, Stanley, engaged in unsportsmanlike conduct by delivering a deliberate and inappropriate hit on Denzel Ward, the opposing team’s cornerback. The Ravens player aggressively collided with Ward, making direct contact between their helmets. Ward was suspected of experiencing a concussion due to a strong impact, but he managed to overcome his apprehension.
The hit knocked Ward out of the contest, and the NFL paid back the Ravens star for his action by slapping him with a $21,855 fine.
Besides him, Ravens wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. was also imposed a $10,927 fine in the match due to his “unsportsmanlike conduct” of throwing up a peace sign to the Browns’ defenders in a touchdown celebration.
Meanwhile, just like OBJ, this is not the first time Stanley has received a fine. The LT had to digest a $16,391 fine during their match against the Tennessee Titans due to illegally hitting a defender on the Titans’ side on his quarterback’s scramble in week 6.
Denzel Ward injury update
After taking the hit in the first quarter, Ward was cleared of concussion protocol before being declared questionable to return. He was later ruled out in the third quarter of the match due to a neck injury and was spotted exiting the sideline structure on his way to the locker room along with the Browns’ medical staff.
Following the match, the Browns star himself said he didn’t feel like having a concussion as well.
“Anytime there’s any sort of head or neck contact in a game, the league does their due diligence and checking for a concussion. So that’s pretty much just going through the protocol and the demands of what we’re supposed to do. I didn’t feel I had a concussion or anything, I mean, I was fine,” he said via SI.com.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler said he heard via a source that the CB’s injury is not a serious one.
The Ohio State product had been a full participant in the team’s practice session on Thursday. According to his recent health update, he is very likely to play the upcoming match against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
