The Buffalo Bills started their regular season with a loss to the New York Jets, but they showcased a phenomenal bounce-back effort by clinching victories over the next three straight fixtures. After ensuring a 3-1 mark in the AFC East to grab the first spot in the division, the team is one of the hottest contenders to win the Super Bowl this year.
Besides winning consecutive games, the Bills were also the first ones to slap the Miami Dolphins with their first defeat this season, and hence, the celebration had been crazy in the game. However, Buffalo’s wide receiver Stefon Diggs went a bit extra in the run and got slapped in return by the NFL with a hefty fine.
How much did the NFL fine Stefon Diggs?
According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, Diggs has been fined a hefty sum of $13,659 for “unsportsmanlike conduct” following a touchdown celebration in the Bills’ last week’s blowout win in week 4.
The WR paved the way for the Bills to beat the previously undefeated Dolphins by catching an 11-yard touchdown pass, giving his squad a 20-14 second-quarter lead. After boosting the scoreboard with the TD, he ran toward the crowd, and grabbed two bears from fans seated near the field, to smash them together in a former WWE superstar Stone Cold Steve Austin celebration.
The veteran recorded 6 catches for 120 yards and 3 touchdowns in the Bills’ 48-20 win over Miami at Highmark Stadium. He is also only one yard away from 400 receiving yards for the season, with the record of scoring 4 touchdowns till week 4.
Meanwhile, Diggs is not the only player to get fined for this wild celebration as defensive tackle Ed Oliver also picked up a pair of $13,659 fines for this. Besides Buffalo’s WR, the Seattle Seahawks signal-caller Geno Smith also had to embrace a fine of $10,927 on the same day due to his unsportsmanlike conduct for shouting at the defense.
Bills vs Dolphins match review
After embarrassing the Denver Broncos with a 20-70 loss, the Dolphins had no idea that the Broncos’ karma would actually end their winning streak in their next campaign. However, in the week 4 game against Miami, the Bills were dominating the game from the first quarter as they started with a 7-0 lead.
However, Dolphins running back De’Von Achane managed to lead it to tie 7-7 by plunging in from three yards out with 6:30 left in the first quarter, albeit the Bills later led them 14-7 after the first quarter. Miami once again tied with Buffalo 14-14 with nearly 12 minutes left in the second quarter.
Nevertheless, the Bills led 28-14 with a few minutes until halftime before increasing it to 31-14 at halftime. They entered the fourth quarter with a 41-20 lead and boosted it to 48-20 with 14:55 left to play before winning the match with the same score. The Bills QB Josh Allen showcased a magnificent performance by throwing for more than 300 yards, along with a record of 12.8 yards per attempt at a 158.3 passer rating.
