A wave of misfortune has hit WWE, with several of its top stars, including CM Punk, Seth Rollins, and Rhea Ripley, sidelined by injuries. Former WWE champion Drew McIntyre is the latest victim of the curse. He joined the list of wrestlers dealing with physical challenges as he recently posted on social media to reveal his elbow injury.
According to PWInsider’s Mike Johnson, Drew McIntyre has a “badly hyperextended elbow” that he supposedly hurt when wrestling Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 40. Despite the injuries, McIntyre persisted in performing throughout WWE’s UK tour.
To verify these reports, the Scottish Warrior took to social media on April 21 to announce his injuries while also seizing the opportunity to take a jab at CM Punk. He said, “And oh yeah, the internet is telling the truth. I’ve said it in interviews already, I am hurt. But I keep pushing through, because I’m not a pathetic, coward, little b**** like CM Punk.”
Since Drew McIntyre has not been advertised for WWE’s Backlash event yet, there is fear that his injury may prevent him from participating in the event on May 4. In addition, the speculation around his future has intensified as his contract with WWE approaches its expiration.
Hopefully, he will renew his contract and be well enough for Clash at the Castle on June 15, which is a big event that takes place in his native Scotland.
Current Status of Drew McIntyre’s WWE contract
Dave Meltzer recently updated Drew McIntyre’s WWE status in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, noting that the Scottish Warrior’s contract was rumored to expire after WrestleMania 40, with its actual end coming in late May. Despite this, McIntyre has not yet signed a new deal with the current organization.
And McIntyre’s standing in WWE is just rising, because of his current association with rising stars like CM Punk and Seth Rollins. As per Ewrestlingnews, there is strong backstage belief that he will renew his contract with WWE, as evidenced by his promotions for multiple upcoming events. This suggests that he will remain associated with the corporation.
