“I took my ball and went home”: Years before refuting Brock Lesnar proposal for the second time, Stone Cold apologized to locker room for leaving furiously over creative plans

If rebellion, relentlessness, and fearlessness had a face, it would undoubtedly be that of the WWE legendary wrestler Stone Cold Steve Austin. The Hall of Famer ruled over the pro wrestling industry during his run as an in-ring performer for WWE.

While it might have taken him some time to make it big in the industry. However, he took the beating and pushed forward when he got the chance and reached legendary status in the process. Despite having such an astonishing career, the Hall of Famer has refused to face a superstar twice and that superstar is known other than Brock Lesnar.

Stone Cold refused Brock Lesnar’s match in 2002

Brock Lesnar was presented as a top rookie from the moment he debuted in WWE in 2002. The promotion pushed him to the top quickly and once wanted The Beast Incarnate to defeat WWE Hall of Famer Stone Cold Steve Austin. But that didn’t come to fruition and The Texas Rattlesnake shared his views on WWE wanting him to put over a young Lesnar in the King of the Ring tournament.

In an interview, the 2009 WWE Hall of Famer shared his thoughts on why he didn’t wrestle Brock Lesnar back in the day. The infamous story of Austin walking out from a match is well-known to everyone. This happened during the King of the Ring 2002 when Lesnar was on the path to becoming ‘The Next Big Thing’.

Over the years, Stone Cold has stated several times he regrets not facing The Beast back then. However, he shed light on the same in an interview. He was asked which star he would like to wrestle if given a chance again.

The six-time WWE Champion said, “That guy is Brock Lesnar. Way back in the day, I was scheduled to wrestle him in Atlanta at a television taping. The match wasn’t great as far as creativity goes, so it never happened. That’s the match that got away.” Stone Cold wanted a proper build-up and storyline before stepping into the ring with rookie Lesnar. As there wasn’t any story behind their bout, he refused to face an upcoming top WWE star, Lesnar, and infamously walked out.

Stone Cold again refuted Lesnar as an opponent at WM 39

During March this year, who would Brock Lesnar face at WrestleMania 39 was one of the biggest questions in the world of wrestling, and ultimately, Omos was announced as Lesnar’s opponent. However, fans were hoping that this was all a swerve and that Beast Incarnate would have an opponent of a higher caliber come the show of shows.

It turns out that Brock Lesnar could have had a dream bout against Stone Cold Steve Austin, but the WWE Hall of Famer declined the proposal.

Brock Lesnar and Steve Austin have never had a one-on-one duel. But that could have changed at this year’s biggest wrestling event WrestleMania 39. However, Stone Cold chose not to do so, leaving Brock Lesnar with Omos on the card. Interestingly, this was not the first time Steve Austin has turned down a match against Lesnar.
