Iga Swiatek calls for media support to battle online hate
Immediately after her win against the Chinese star, Qinwen Zheng, the top-seeded Swiatek was received with a lot of online hate. Delving into what these comments were about, it was found that they were criticisms against the four-time Grand Slam champion for losing a set in that match. Iga Swiatek quickly addressed this in the post-match interview and said:
“Well for sure today’s match wasn’t perfect. We all saw that. But the amount of hate and criticism that me and my team get after you know even losing a set is just ridiculous and I wanna kind of encourage people to be more thoughtful when they comment on the internet and it would be great if you guys could help us as journalists”

The Polish star explained how each person in the team is working really hard and is giving their best. So, it would be much better if the people on the internet try to look on the positive side of things and appreciate the players and the team rather than just throwing hate with the mask of anonymity.
US Open to introduce major change following top seed’s complaint
A while back, Iga Swiatek had also addressed how the balls at the US Open 2022 felt lighter and didn’t hold its strength as long as the one that was used by men. This brought up the issue of how the US Open is the only Grand Slam that does not use the same balls for the men’s and women’s matches.
Once this was highlighted by top WTA stars such as Iga Swiatek herself, the tournament director Stacey Allaster came out with the statement, “If the WTA wants to change the ball, no problem.” They also announced that Wilson will be accommodating the new required balls as well.
