Insider clears the air surrounding Andy Reid’s Chiefs future

Amid the tumultuous 2023 season that saw the dismissal of eight head coaches, experienced figures like Andy Reid of the Kansas City Chiefs have remained steady and successful. Despite the coaching changes around the league, Reid’s leadership has been a constant source of stability for the Chiefs.

The prevailing sentiment is one of assurance that the Chiefs are unlikely to entertain the thought of parting ways with Reid. Yet, as rumors swirl about potential successors, particularly with whispers of Bill Belichick being mentioned, NFL insiders offer their perspectives on the speculations surrounding Reid’s future with the Chiefs.

Insider hints at Andy Reid’s Chiefs future

With rumors circulating about the potential retirement of legendary Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid, NFL analysts and insiders have weighed in on the matter. According to Peter King, doubts linger about his departure from the Chiefs after this season. Mike Florio also suggested that the Chiefs organization is considering Reid’s potential retirement, but nothing definitive has been confirmed.

“I think there’s reason to believe. The Chiefs have the possibility on their radar screen; we’ll find out when the season ends,” Florio said.

However, the 65-year-old himself has dismissed these speculations, asserting his focus on the upcoming challenges with his team. Ahead of the Chiefs’ game against the Miami Dolphins, the Chiefs coach made it clear that retirement is not on his mind at the moment.

“I haven’t even thought about that. I’m thinking about one thing. I figured that would come up when you guys were asking these questions because I’m old — but not that old”, he said.

Various reporters have echoed Reid’s sentiment, shutting down the retirement rumors. Adam Schefter of ESPN reiterated that retirement is not currently a consideration for Reid. Similarly, Tracy Wolfson of CBS Sports expressed her surprise at the idea of Reid stepping down, particularly with two years remaining on his contract.

Chiefs record under Andy Reid

Since assuming the role of head coach on January 7, 2013, Andy Reid has had a significant impact on the Chiefs. Under his leadership, the team has been a dominant force in the NFL, reaching the playoffs in nine out of 10 seasons.

One of Andy Reid’s remarkable achievements is guiding the Chiefs to host an NFL-record five consecutive AFC Championship Games from 2018 to 2022, showcasing sustained excellence.

In 2019, the vet coach guided the Chiefs to a historic victory in Super Bowl LIV, defeating the San Francisco 49ers. Just three seasons later, in 2023, he led the team to another Super Bowl triumph, this time prevailing over the Philadelphia Eagles with a 38-35 victory in Super Bowl LVII.

Throughout his tenure, Reid has consistently steered the Chiefs to success in the AFC West division. In 2016, he sealed a remarkable turnaround, leading the team to a 12-4 record and capturing the AFC West title for the first time since 2010.

The following year, the HC guided the Chiefs to another division title, marking the first time in franchise history that the team had won the division in back-to-back years.

In 2019, his leadership helped the Chiefs secure their fourth consecutive AFC West title and the No. 2 seed in the AFC. Despite the challenges posed by the first NFL 17-game season in 2021, his squad recorded stellar 12-5 record, winning their sixth consecutive AFC West title, and securing the No. 2 seed in the AFC.

This season, the Chiefs under him is poised to gift the storied coach his third Super Bowl that is set to be held on February 11 after beating the Baltimore Ravens.
