Inter Miami icon Lionel Messi ventures into esports as co-owner of Sergio Aguero’s company

Smart footballers always prepare for life after their playing career, and Lionel Messi is no exception. The Argentine star has enjoyed success at the highest level, and despite only ever playing for two European clubs, he managed to achieve what no European footballer or player in history has managed to do.

Messi is considered the greatest player ever to play the game, and his time in the United States has opened his eyes to the other side of the business, including owning sports franchises, one of which is Sergio Aguero’s esports company. The Inter Miami star joined Sergio Aguero as the company’s new co-owner, with the latter making the special announcement on Instagram last night.

Lionel Messi becomes esports team co-owner

Life is good for Lionel Messi at the moment. Almost a week after picking up his 8th Ballon d’Or award, the former Barcelona player has teamed up with his compatriot Sergio Aguero to become the co-owner of Aguero’s esports company KRU. The announcement was made by Sergio Aguero on Instagram yesterday, with Messi himself making a special appearance.

“Hello, everybody, to the KRU fans and to all esports fans in general. This message is important for the entire community no matter what team you support, as I’ve always said,” the former Manchester City striker said in a video statement.

“You’ve probably heard some rumors. That’s why I’ve decided to make this video to clarify a few things. These are very mixed emotions on one hand. KRU is celebrating another anniversary, and that obviously makes me very happy, but with each passing year, things become more challenging. Today, I have some important news to share.”

“I’ve reached my limit. I have to tell you that I’m no longer the owner of KRU. Why am I no longer the owner? Because now, we are two,” Aguero added.

The video then cuts to show Lionel Messi, who said, “Okay, let’s play.”

Aguero and Lionel Messi remain close friends, so it’s no surprise they’ve decided to venture into the esports business together. The former City and prematurely Barcelona striker even explained why Messi chose to play in the United States over making money in Saudi Arabia.

Soccer fans react to Lionel Messi’s new business ventures

The announcement video quickly circulated on social media, leaving fans stunned about Messi’s new venture. This prompted mixed reactions from soccer fans, as some lauded the Argentine’s decision to explore the esports business while others criticized the move.

“Messi and Aguero are really into esports. Maybe they should join KRU as players and show us their skills. Or maybe they just want to avoid playing for Barcelona and Manchester City,” one fan wrote.

Another fan indicated that Aguero needed money for his venture and needed his friend to provide some influx, leading him to share some parts of the company with Messi.

Lionel Messi, who was honored by Adidas with eight gold rings to celebrate his eighth Ballon d’Or award, has been in good spirits, and this new adventure will provide him with more experience as he continues to improve his business acumen.
