Luka Modric is one of the world’s best players and is still bossing the pitch at the age of 38. He has been a longtime servant of Real Madrid and has led them to many trophies and glory. So, it is a bit surprising to see the veteran not playing much for the club at the moment. Even without his presence, the team is doing great, thanks to new signing Jude Bellingham.
With his contract over next summer, this could see the Croatian being approached by foreign clubs interested in taking him. And one of those clubs could see him partner up with some of his greatest rivals on the pitch.
Inter Miami eyes Real Madrid legend Luka Modric for 2024
One of the clubs most interested in Modric is Inter Miami, which boasts some very high-profile players at the moment. The David Beckham-owned club has already seen one of the greatest players, Lionel Messi, join them. Furthermore, they have also brought in two former Barcelona stars Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba. Together, Inter Miami’s popularity has increased and their results have also dramatically improved.
According to Croatian news outlet Dubrovnik Times, Luka Modric is now their next target, with the Croatian playmaker due to become a free agent next summer. Whether Modric is interested or not is unclear, due to him opting to stay at Real Madrid rather than go to Saudi Arabia this summer, despite a big offer. However, seeing Madrid thrive without him, and with some great midfielders in the team, the 2018 Ballon d’Or winner may finally move on.
It would be hard for Miami to fit Modric in their wage bill, as Luis Saurez is expected to join the Herons as well. If Modric does join the club, the team will become unstoppable, and the chance to see Modric ball it out with his former Barcelona rivals will also be interesting to see.
Modric expresses surprise over limited playing time at Madrid
Luka Modric himself now admits that he is not happy at his limited playing time this season. He was a crucial player last season and when he signed a one year contract extension, it was expected that he will continue to be so. But he has only start in the last four games, and in total only 133 minutes.
According to Managing Madrid, the Croatian spoke in a recent interview Sportske Novosti, where he discussed his unhappiness over not playing. He said that while he is unhappy, he respects the coach’s decision and will continue fighting for his place.
His exact words were, “Nobody is happy without playing and after my whole career it definitely feels strange. Anyway, the coach made that decision and I won’t quit because of that. Quite the opposite, actually.”
He also further revealed that when he signed the extension, he was assured that he will be given ample playing time and recognition, which has not been honored yet,
“They wanted me to stay and my wish was the same. My only requirement was to be treated as a competitive player so that I didn’t stay based on my past achievements. They told me that my status wouldn’t change and that’s why I signed.”
Real Madrid have already planned for the future with the likes of Fede Valverde, Eduardo Camavinga and Aurelien Tchouameni already guaranteed starters. The recent addition of Jude Bellingham has also stirred up competition, with the Englishman already dominating games.
It seems that Modric finally has realized that his time at Madrid is over, and what he does next is up to him. For now, Inter Miami could be the favorites for being his next club.
