Inter Milan ace Lautaro Martinez exposes Romelu Lukaku for betraying his teammates amid transfer saga involving Juventus

Romelu Lukaku has been a shadow of his best self for quite some seasons after that remarkable run in Inter Milan’s Serie A-winning campaign two years ago. The Belgian scored 24 league goals that season and would have been the league’s top goalscorer had Ronaldo not been in his ‘best’ form.

That was the last time anything remarkable could be used in the same sentence with Romelu Lukaku. He has since gone back to Chelsea, moved back to Inter Milan on loan, then returned to Chelsea, waiting for a decision from Pochettino. Inter had been locked in negotiations with Chelsea for a permanent move for Lukaku, but the Belgian favored a move to rival Juventus.

Inter probably felt betrayed by Lukaku after this, and Argentine Lautaro Martinez has given his opinion on the matter in a recent interview.

Lautaro Martinez shares candid thoughts on Romelu Lukaku’s betrayal

Betrayal is almost inevitable in football. Think of that cross-city Carlos Tevez’s move from Manchester United to City or that hate-filled Emmanuel Adebayor’s celebration for City against his former club Arsenal. Some Barcelona fans may hold grudges against Lionel Messi for passing on the chance to play for his boyhood club in favor of a move to Inter Miami, which seems to be working well.

Romelu Lukaku once declared his love for Inter Milan and their fans while playing for Chelsea under Thomas Tuchel, “I am in love with Italy, and this is rightly to talk and let people know what really happened. I want to say a big apology to the Inter fans because I think the way I left should have been different. I really hope in the depths of my heart to return to Inter, not at the end of my career, but at a good level to hopefully win more.”

He got his wish at the end of that season when he was allowed to join Inter on a season-long loan after failing to nail down a place in the starting team of Chelsea. After his loan spell in Italy, he returned to London, but Inter reportedly wanted to bring him back and submitted a bid for him earlier this summer. Lukaku has now favored a move to Juventus over Inter, much to the disappointment of Lautaro Martinez and several other Inter players.

“I was disappointed by Lukaku – it’s the truth. I tried to call him in those days of chaos, but he never answered me, the same he did with my other teammates. I was disappointed, but it’s his choice,” the Inter forward said, as mentioned in a tweet by Fabrizio Romano.

Romelu Lukaku snubs Inter Milan to sign deal with Juventus

According to Fabrizio Romano, Inter Milan walked out of the Lukaku deal once they found that the forward had been in talks with Juventus over a possible move to Turin. Juventus director confirmed earlier this month that the club was in talks with Chelsea for Lukaku but claimed they were at the initial stages of gathering information.
