Andrade El Idolo is a rising star in the wrestling community, having been a member of both WWE and AEW promotions. He held the NXT Championship and the United States Championship in WWE. Andrade was released from WWE in March 2021 and subsequently joined AEW as new talent.
His last appearance with AEW was at the Worlds End event on December 30, and there are rumors suggesting he is set to appear in his wife Charlotte Flair’s company after his contract expired with AEW the following day.
Is Andrade returning to WWE?
AEW Worlds Event pay-per-view was Andrade El Idolo‘s last event in the company, the superstar faced Miro and lost the match due to the interference of Miro’s wife CJ Perry. After the match, AEW president Tony Khan said in a press conference that Andrade’s departure from the company is an amicable decision and they are parting ways in a good term.
Tony said, “I have a ton of respect for Andrade El Idolo. He’s been a huge performer in the Continental Classic week after week I talked about this great run Collision’s been on, Andrade El Idolo has been a huge part of it. I think we did everything we could to show Andrade El Idolo we really do value him. If this is going to be the way he’s gonna leave AEW, talk about leaving on a high note because he had a great match with Miro tonight.”
The Mexican star was set to appear in the GCW event in 2024, but now that rumors are circulating of his eventual return to WWE, the superstar has been removed from the Game Changer Wrestling (GCW) lineup. Mike Johnson of PWInsider said, “There’s an expectation internally that Andrade will be back with WWE as soon as Monday. He was advertised for at least one GCW event for 2024, and no longer is.”
How did Andrade do during his time in WWE?
Andrade joined WWE’s main roster in April 2018; prior to that, he wrestled in the NXT division as a heel character, winning the NXT Championship, which elevated his status as a potential main eventer. However, he later lost that title at NXT TakeOver in New Orleans, facing Aleister Black.
The 34-year-old wrestler has had feuds with some of the big names in WWE. He fought against Drew McIntyre in a champion vs champion match where Drew was the WWE World Champion and Andrade was the WWE United States champion. Andrade won his United States title from Rey Mysterio and later defended that title in Monday Night RAW in January 2020 in a ladder match. Andrade went on to successfully defeat Rey again in that match after he executed a DDT to Mysterio through the ladder.
Andrade will likely make a comeback in WWE as his wife ‘The Queen’ Charlotte Flair is also with the company, fans are excited to see the duo again in the same company and hope to see some mixed-gender Tag Team matches with the couples taking on other superstars.
