On today’s episode of NXT, Dragon Lee lost his NXT North American Championship to Oba Femi, who cashed in his Breakout Tournament contract and became the champion for the first time. Femi earned the contract by winning the final match against Odyssey Jones at New Year’s Evil NXT.
As there is no current storyline for Lee in the NXT, he is rumored to go back to the Smackdown roster as a member of the Latina World Order to complete his unfinished business with Santos Escobar.
Oba Femi wins WWE NXT North American title from Dragon Lee
In the main event of today’s NXT, Dragon Lee defended his NXT North American Championship against Lexis King, who earned the opportunity by winning the number 1 contender match against Carmelo Hayes.
Dragon Lee emerged victorious against Hayes by landing his finisher, the Dragon Driver and retained his title. As a sudden surprise, Oba Femi made his entry into the ring and started to attack Dragon Lee. Femi took the advantage and cashed in his contract after winning the men’s breakout tournament.
Dragon Lee had no idea where he was and Femi hit Lee with a thunderous powerbomb and became the NXT North American Champion. Femi’s victory was a shocking and historic moment, as he became the first wrestler to win the NXT Breakout Tournament and the NXT North American Championship in the same month.
Lee has been a fighting champion ever since defeating Dominik Mysterio for the title at the NXT Deadline. He defended his title three times, against Tyler Bate, Charlie Dempsey, and Butch, before losing it to Femi. Nevertheless, his reign was short, Lee had a good one and dominated the NXT as the Champion
Why did Dragon Lee drop his WWE NXT North American title?
Dragon Lee lost the NXT North American Championship after a reign of 30 days. He won the title from Dominik Mysterio on December 9, 2023. The main reason for his title loss is said to be his comeback to the Smackdown roster. Dragon Lee was on the Smackdown roster until December 2023 and Lee went to challenge Judgment Day member Dominik Mysterio for the NXT North American Championship.
Dominik was supposed to defend his title against Wes Lee, but due to an injury, Wes Lee was removed from the match. Later on in the show, Hall Of Famer Rey Mysterio announced Dragon Lee as a replacement and he defeated Dominik to win the Championship at the NXT Deadline event.
With his title loss, Dragon Lee is expected to feud with Santos Escobar, who betrayed the LWO and attacked Rey Mysterio, causing him a serious knee injury. Lee is expected to come back to LWO along with Cruz Del Toro, Joaquin Wilde and Zelina Vega to strengthen the presence as the fan favorite faction in the Smackdown.
