Is Elina Svitolina injured? Exploring real reason behind Cincinnati 2023 withdrawal

Every performance of the Ukrainian sensation Elina Svitolina is a testament to the passion and love she possesses for Tennis. Just last year, this WTA star and her husband, Gael Monfils, welcomed their first daughter Skai into the world, and about another 9 months later, Elina played her Wimbledon semifinals. However, her joyous success streak might be facing a hurdle right now.

In the past, Svitolina had to pull out from tournaments due to wrist and back injuries. She has always come back stronger from them. Her most recent comeback from the maternity break has been truly inspiring. Following her unforgettable performance at Wimbledon 2023, fans expected her to get closer to her first Grand Slam in the upcoming US Open, but looks like the chances of that might be down.

Is Elina Svitolina injured?

With the US Open commencing in just two more weeks, the Cincinnati Open was the final preparation tournament for all the top-tier tennis stars. Elina was scheduled to go after former World number 1, Caroline Wozniacki for her opening round. However, she announced on social media that she has withdrawn from the tournament due to a foot injury.

Svitolian expressed how this particular issue had been bothering her for a while and only after a scan, she realized that there are some serious issues with her foot that will need addressing and resting. Therefore, she said that she pulled out of the Cincinnati Open in order to hopefully be at 100% before the US Open.

Will Elina Svitolina recover in time for US Open?

During her career, Elina has shown her prowess on all surfaces, especially in the clay court. With 17 WTA titles and several appearances at the Grand Slam quarterfinals, the 26-year-old is yet to win one Grand Slam. Her Wimbledon 2023 performance was unforgettable and her priceless reactions succeeding to the quarterfinals showed how much every match meant to her.

With a foot injury this close to the US Open, she might not be able to recover completely to participate, and even if she does pull through, she might not be able to give her absolute best. However, given the Ukrainian star’s ability to come back and rise above every time, fans might not need to lose hope.
