With the January transfer window fully open for clubs, many have already decided which players to buy and which to sell. Tottenham will also be quite busy and have specific plans for defender Eric Dier.
With the Premier League season already halfway through, the club needs to make adjustments in order to fully strengthen the team. They are actively pushing for the title, and it seems that Dier will be the latest player to leave the club and could even be reunited with a former teammate of his.
Insider provides update on Eric Dier’s reported Bayern move
Eric Dier is now close to leaving Tottenham, and surprisingly, he is linked to Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich. He could leave the Premier League club in the current January transfer window and it seems Bayern Munich is his preferred target. Reports have already confirmed that the player has personal terms like salary and other issues already agreed upon.
However, Tottenham themselves have said that since then, Bayern have not contacted them over any transfers, maintaining that a transfer fee needs to be paid. Eric is already out of the first team under new manager Ange Postecoglou, and he is also going to see his contract end this summer. He had hoped to negotiate an early exit on a free transfer, but the club isn’t budging from it, though they are ready to let him leave for a fee.
Bayern are in the market for a new defender, with German manager Thomas Tuchel liking Eric Dier a lot, especially as a short-term solution. However, they are also monitoring other targets, with Barcelona’s Ronald Araujo a priority target, though it probably won’t happen.
Dier will also be the latest Premier League transfer to the club, after the high profile signing of Harry Kane, who has impressed since his summer arrival. Kane was the Tottenham captain previously and played numerous games with Dier. If the transfer happened, both players could be reunited.
Ange Postecoglou reacts to Eric Dier rumour
Manager Ange Postecoglou saw a narrow 1-0 win over Burnley in the FA Cup, but was still angry in his press conference. It was due to a reporter’s question over the fate of Eric Dier, with Ange known to be blunt and honest in his interviews. The defender was not included in the squad, and Ange confirmed it was due to injury, rather than the rumors of his exit.
He said, “Eric Dier is injured; he got injured in training yesterday. I know absolutely zero about his links with Bayern Munich. He didnāt train yesterday, he was injured, so he wasnāt selected.”
But he snapped after being repeatedly asked the same question and whether his potential exit is impacting his playing time. “He’s injured and pulled up sore in training and couldn’t take part. The transfer rumor is a separate issue, but don’t question my integrity. When I say heās injured, he’s injured. Ask him, but he was injured. Itās got nothing to do with anything else.”
Bayern Munich will have to decide if they do want the player, and if they do decide to go for it, they have to negotiate a price for him with Tottenham. If it does happen, we will get to see a reunion between Eric Dier and Harry Kane in Bavaria.
