With his spectacular ring performances, Kofi Kingston has risen to the top of the WWE roster. The wrestler has a Hall of Fame career that includes several title victories, and he is widely recognized as one of the most decorated wrestlers in WWE history.
However, his career took a detour due to the controversy regarding his original nationality at one point. Fans were perplexed as to whether he was from Ghana or Jamaica.
Tracing Kofi Kingston’s root
WWE superstar Kofi Kingston initially entered WWE with a Jamaican gimmick and was even introduced as the first Jamaican WWE wrestler. Yet, his accent and gimmick mysteriously disappeared one day in 2009.
Kingston’s Jamaican persona was only a character he created while competing on the independent wrestling circuit. When he made his WWE debut with this gimmick, Vince McMahon set a stipulation on him: he had to keep the gimmick even when he was not at home, so that people wouldn’t discover he wasn’t Jamaican.
He won two belts immediately after his WWE debut, and his career was going very smoothly for someone with no prior experience in the business. However, his easy reign came to an end when the BBC discovered his act and gathered proof of his true identity. Surprisingly, it was Kofi Kingston’s mother who exposed him, unaware of the fact that her actions would have an impact on Kofi’s career.
Actually, Kofi Kingston is from Ghana in real life. His father’s name is Kwasi Sarkodie-Mensah and his mother’s name is Elizabeth Sarkodie-Mensah. Kofi was born on August 14, 1981 in Kumasi, Ashanti, Ghana. Therefore, he is not from Jamaica.
Kofi opens library & digital center in Ghana
Many students in Ghana will soon have access to better educational facilities thanks to WWE superstar Kofi Kingston’s generous donation. Despite living in America, Kofi and his mother have always attempted to help their community by providing good education and food.
Kofi Kingston announced last year in West Africa that they hoped to raise funding to build a well-equipped computer lab and library. He set up a GoFundMe campaign with the intention of raising enough money to build a two-classroom facility with at least 50 computers and a library that could seat at least 100 students. A number of schools in the area would use this facility.
As previously promised, Kofi has recently visited his home country Ghana, and inaugurated the Kofi Kingston Library & Digital Center. During his journey, his mother accompanied him. This center will be operated by C.L.I.C.K., and the organization will monitor the center. Reacting to this, many fans have admired Kofi’s efforts for the development of his community. WWE female superstar Natalya even appreciated his work.
