Mason Greenwood was once one of the best young players in the world and was expected to be one of the next big things. Coming out of the Manchester United academy, he was supposed to be the next sensation in England.
But his career got ruined when a scandal affected him. His girlfriend accused him of domestic abuse, and he was arrested by police and investigated, while the club also suspended him. Even after the charges were dropped, he has not made a return to the squad, though that could now change.
Is Mason Greenwood returning to Manchester United?
Since he was not allowed back into the squad due to concerns over fan backlash, Mason Greenwood was instead allowed to go on a season-long loan to Spanish club Getafe. This was to keep him in top form while the club decided whether to keep him or sell him. Greenwood’s contract at United also lasts until 2025, which means United has plenty of time to do that.
Before, there were rumors that United were resigned to selling him, with two La Liga clubs interested in buying him. But now fresh reports have come out that Mason could make a return to his boyhood club.

It comes at a time when Sir Jim Ratcliffe is expected to become the new decision-maker at the club, as his takeover of the club is close to being announced. While he will only own 25 percent of the club, he is expected to take sporting matters into his own hands. And it is said that the British CEO is thinking heavily about the situation.
According to reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano, Sir Jim does want Greenwood to come back, but has some conditions for it. He wants to see out the loan deal at Getafe, which ends in June 2024, and after evaluating his performance at the club, a final decision will be taken. If he is deemed not perfect for return, he will be sold.
Mason Greenwood’s performance for Getafe
Mason Greenwood has already found his feet in Spain, impressing for Getafe. The club are currently ninth in the league thanks to his efforts. He already has scored 2 goals and given 3 assists which have helped the team a lot, salvaging crucial points for them.
His hard work and professionalism since arriving at the club have earned him much praise from everyone at the club. His manager and teammates have all appreciated him and the fans have also given him their love. The club also hopes to keep him next season, but it is not expected that they will be able to afford him.
It remains to be seen what else develops in the Mason Greenwood situation. If he does wish to return to Manchester United, he needs to keep performing like he already is. He will hope to do just that when Getafe face Sevilla away next Saturday.
