Is Mercedes exec Jerome D’Ambrosio going to join Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari next season?

Formula One is in the midst of a transformative period, with significant changes on the horizon Among the teams gearing up for a complete renovation ahead of the 2025 season is the renowned Italian outfit, Ferrari.

Adding to the intrigue, recent reports suggest that alongside Lewis Hamilton, another key member of Mercedes, is on the verge of transitioning to Ferrari in the upcoming Formula One 2025 season.

Jerome D’Ambrosio rumored to join Ferrari

Jerome D’Ambrosio, Mercedes’s development director, will be leaving the team to join the Italian-based squad with Lewis Hamilton. The Belgian’s tenure with the team has been significantly advantageous, as he has played an important role in driving significant improvements since his arrival.

There were also rumours circulating that Ambrosi could potentially succeed Toto Wolff as the team principal, given his steadfast presence through the team’s highs and lows and his contributions to their triumphant journey.

When asked about the possibility of the 38-year-old taking over Wolff’s position in the future, the team principal replied, “He’s looking after the young driver programme in very close cooperation with Gwen [Lagrue, Mercedes Driver Programme Advisor], who has been doing it very successfully over the last few years.” However, with the recent revelation of his departure, uncertainty looms over whether he is still being regarded as the team leader or not.

What is Jerome D’Ambrosio’s role in Mercedes?

Jerome D’ Ambrosio is an ex-Formula One driver who was responsible for the young drivers’ development programme, carrying out the responsibility that had been previously left by James Vowles to improve his career prospectively.

Since then, Ambrosio has been involved with the team, training many young athletes to become rising stars. He has also earned praise from various Formula One individuals, including Toto Wolff himself, who stated “I think he has the know-how of having been a racing driver at a very high level. He was a go-karting world champion. He’s been in F1, and on the other side, he has skills as a manager.

“So where that will lead him is a question today; it’s at a very early stage. He is just coming in for the driver development part and administrative functions. And we shall see where that goes.” Additionally, D’Ambrosio was also a Formula E team boss at Venturi and has collaborated closely with Toto Wolff’s wife, Susie, too.
