Is Red Bull’s Chief Technical Officer Adrian Newey planning to call it quits on his extraordinary F1 career?

Adrian Newey has been hailed as one of the greatest designers and aerodynamicists in the sport now for a long time. The ‘Airbender’ or as fans fondly like to call him has made numerous championship winning cars for a lot of teams throughout his marvelous career. Newey is currently a part of Red Bull squad as one of their chief aerodynamicists.

Red Bull and Newey have one of the most successful partnerships in the world of F1 and the Austrian team owes a lot of its mind-blowing performance to Newey. But all good things come to an end, and there were speculations that Adrian Newey’s tenure at F1 is about to come to reach its denouement.

Is Adrian Newey going to retire?

Adrian Newey is currently 64 years old, and he has been a part of F1 for over 35 years now. The Airbender has earned the respect of teams all over paddock through his creation which have dominated seasons every time they work out well. Adrian Newey has been working with Red Bull since 2006 and a is key component of the Milton Keynes outfit.

In such an age with a lot of heavy competition in Formula 1 and the constant pressure of races increasing due to a longer race schedule, it is apt to believe that Adrian Newey may want to call it quits and live the rest of his life admiring his creations or cheering for his favorite driver.

But, contrary to public expectations, Adrian Newey has made a sensational claim, “I think when I was in my early 50s, I thought that by 60 I would go lie on a beach. But the reality is I’d get bored. I know I would.” He further backed up his statement with equal responsibility towards his team.

“If I feel in myself and or if other people say to me ‘Look, your contribution isn’t useful anymore’ then I’ve got to take that on board because the last thing I want to do is to let the team down. But as long as I feel I’m able to contribute… hopefully I’m still contributing now.”

Newey’s words come after Christian Horner’s clarification regarding his involvement in RB19 and future projects, further rejecting any possibility of retirement.

Adrian Newey is arguably one of the most famous engineers in the world, mainly due to his contributions in Formula 1 throughout his life. Formula 1 is an ever-changing game and so are Newey’s ideas. He also designed and won the 1985 and 1986 CART titles. The mastermind of aerodynamics has also written a book titled “How to Build a Car”. It is one of the most popular and well received books in the world of motorsports.
