WWE superstar Rey Mysterio is a legendary wrestler and an industry icon who has made a huge impact in the world of professional wrestling. Recently, Wrestling Observer reported that he has re-signed with WWE, indicating that he plans to continue his historic run with the company.
This news came just hours after reports surfaced about his son Dominik’s contract renewal. As a Hall of Famer, The Master of 619’s return to WWE is sure to excite fans and showcase his incredible skills once again in the squared circle of WWE.
Rey Mysterio signed a new WWE contract at 49
WWE has a large roster of talented superstars whom they aim to retain. The good news is that Rey Mysterio has renewed his contract with WWE for an unspecified length of time, according to PWInsider Dave Meltzer’s report.
The Master of 619 has had a long-standing relationship with the company since 2002, and he was the youngest WWE superstar on that roster. In 2018, Rey Mysterio made a return to WWE after a long break and began teaming up with his son, Dominik Mysterio, in 2020.
However, their partnership came to an end last summer when Dominik turned on Rey. As a result, they faced each other in a match at this year’s WrestleMania, in which Rey emerged victorious. It remains to be seen if they will ever meet again and under what circumstances.
It has been previously reported that Rey Mysterio is currently out of action due to a knee injury that he suffered because of Santos Escober. This incident happened because Santos Escobar felt disrespected after his mentor, Rey Mysterio, chose Carlito over him. This led to Mysterio getting injured and being written out of the storyline after WWE Crown Jewel. As per the latest report from Dave Meltzer, The Master of 619 has renewed his contract with WWE, but the duration of the contract is yet to be revealed.
On the other hand, Dominik Mysterio has recently extended his contract with WWE. He has joined the Judgment Day faction after separating from his father and has been supporting WWE Women’s World Champion Rhea Ripley. Although he has won the NXT North American Championship twice, he recently lost the title to Dragon Lee at the NXT Deadline earlier this month.
Is Rey Mysterio going to break the record for the oldest wrestler?
There are some WWE wrestlers on the current roster who are known for their towering height, making them even more daunting in the wrestling ring. However, there are also WWE superstars who have proved that age and size don’t necessarily matter. One of these superstars is Rey Mysterio, who at the age of 49, has managed to keep up with the younger and taller wrestlers in the league.
Despite being only five feet and six inches tall and relatively lightweight, Mysterio has been in the wrestling business for over two decades. When Mysterio eventually decides to retire and hang up his mask, it will be a significant moment in the industry. Recently, The Master of 619 has also renewed his WWE contract. This will mark his 23 years in the WWE Universe. He is the oldest active WWE superstar after only R-Truth, who is 51 years old.
Being the oldest WWE wrestler would be an impressive feat, but Rey Mysterio still has a ways to go. Mae Young, who competed in WWE at the age of 87, holds the record for being the oldest wrestler in the history of the company. However, Vince McMahon holds the record for being the oldest wrestler to win the WWE Championship, accomplishing this at the age of 54. If Rey Mysterio wants to come close to breaking these records, it would be beneficial for him to continue wrestling in the WWE for several more years.
