Sheamus has been one of the most prominent names in WWE. He has achieved anything and everything in the Stamford-based promotion except winning the Intercontinental Championship. Recent reports are now suggesting that the Celtic Warrior’s contract is done in 2024.
Sheamus has been with WWE since 2006 and was the top star of the company at one point. The former World Champion is now the leader of The Brawling Brutes on SmackDown. However, his most successful time as a tag team member was back in 2016, when he teamed up with his then-enemy-turned-best friend Claudio Castagnoli (formerly known as Cesaro).
Is Sheamus leaving WWE after the contract expires?
According to a recent report by Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select, the contract of WWE superstar Sheamus is set to expire in 2024. It’s unknown as of now as to where The Celtic Warrior wants to move on to after his contract expires. He may as well stay with the Stamford-based promotion for now. However, there’s an opportunity for him to reunite with an old friend from AEW.
As we all know, Sheamus is a close friend of AEW star Claudio Castagnoli. The two had a pretty memorable run as a tag team called The Bar and achieved monumental success in the process. They eventually split up, and Claudio left the company for AEW. If Sheamus ends up leaving WWE once his contract is up, it would be the perfect chance for The Bar to reunite once again in AEW. The Celtic Warrior could be introduced as a new member of the Blackpool Combat Club, of which Claudio is a part of.
However, these are simply speculations for now. Fans would definitely love to see the Celtic Warrior and the Swiss Cyborg side by side once again.
Sheamus’ WWE career highlights
Sheamus made his WWE debut in 2006 and rose to the top pretty quickly. He achieved a huge amount of success in the company, including winning the WWE Championship four times.
However, The Celtic Warrior truly shined during his rivalry-turned-partnership with Claudio Castagnoli (aka Cesaro) back in 2016. They initially started out as rivals, with them having a memorable Best of Seven series of matches that ended in a draw. Afterwards, then-RAW General Manager Mick Foley put the two superstars together in a team.
Despite not getting along at first, they became one of RAW’s most dominant and successful tag teams, capturing the RAW Tag Team Championship four times and the SmackDown Tag Team Championship once. The two men eventually became the closest of friends and are still on good terms to this day.
With his WWE contract coming to an end next year, it will be interesting to see whether Sheamus will stay with the company or switch over to AEW to reunite with his old friend. Either way, fans hope to see The Celtic Warrior in action in the coming years.
