Is Teofimo Lopez going to face off against Terence Crawford? Exploring the possibility

Teofimo Lopez has become one of the top contenders to fight on a bigger stage and fight against tough competitors after becoming the champion in 2018. Champion Terrance Crawford has already started to speculate about Lopez’s next fight.

WBO champion Teofimo has already started a war of words to spark talks between him and Crawford. Lopez is on a four-fight win streak already, and Terrance hasn’t faced any defeats so far. This is surely one of the most anticipated matchups.

Is the Teofimo Lopez vs. Terence Crawford bout confirmed?

Recently, Terence Crawford accused Canelo Alvarez of avoiding the fight against him, which led other competitors like Teofimo to try their luck against Terence. According to Boxing Scene, Lopez recently called out Terence Crawford in an interview. Crawford, after winning the bout against Errol Spence Jr., became a fan favorite and later became part of rumored bouts with big-name fighters.

Crawford was also the IBF champion, but he wasn’t showing up to defend the title for stipulated times, which led to the vacant title in 2017.

But After gaining the IBF title back on July 29th, 2023, Terence Crawford once again got into a conversation about fighting the names. 10 years younger than Crawford Teofimo Lopez, he shows the desire to try his luck against an undefeated boxer.

Lopez, on asking about the match-up against Terence, said, “Crawford is a human, just like me. We bleed the same. He’s just uglier. That motherf—is ugly. Ugly, f— ugly. I don’t know how this man gets… he’s ugly. Sh!t. He even fights ugly. I’ll be real with y’all.”

There were also talks about whether Lopez was stopping him from fighting Crawford; he brought two names: Shakur Stevenson and Keyshawn Davis, who are also friends of 36-year-old Terence. Teofimo Lopez said Davis and Stevenson are stopping Terence from fighting him.

Teofimo Lopez’s record after his comeback from retirement

Last year, on June 12, Teofimo Lopez announced his retirement after defeating Josh Taylor just two days later, on June 10, 2023. He made a retirement post on his Instagram after becoming a two-division champion, captioning it, “What a relief! Retired at the top. Thank you, Boxing, for the amazing life you’ve provided for myself and my entire loved ones!…THE DOUBLE-GREATEST #JesusIsKing.”

Within 7 months, he made the comeback and fought against Jamaine Ortiz in the Michelob Ultra Arena. The victory came through a unanimous decision, and the win streak was raised to 4. The victory was also a relief for Teofimo Lopez, as he was facing much backlash for calling off his career at such a young age. Now the chances of him fighting against a bigger name are once again making headlines. But Terence Crawford so far hasn’t made any of the comments related to fighting the 26-year-old.
