Zach Wilson led the New York Jets since Week 1 following the season-ending injury to Aaron Rodgers. The team has a pretty good defense, which even handed them a little winning streak in the midway, but their offense has been terrible. Despite constant criticism regarding his role on the O-line, the team and head coach Robert Saleh stayed committed to their drafted star.
However, as Gang Green has once again got embroiled in a losing streak, they decided on a change in the O-line. The QB room has been shuffled ahead of the team’s upcoming match against the Miami Dolphins, and Trevor Siemian, who has a 13-17 all-time record as a starter, will now serve as a backup QB.
Is Trevor Siemian Jets’ new backup QB?
In the Jets Week 11 match, Zach Wilson completed seven of his 15 pass attempts and was sacked five times with one touchdown and one interception before losing his spot to Tim Boyle for a while. A day earlier, HC Robert Saleh let everyone know about the upcoming scenario of the QB room before the Week 12 match against the Dolphins.
According to the latest update from multiple sources, Saleh told reporters following practice that Boyle will do the starting job in the campaign, and Siemian will be the immediate backup. All three signal-callers, including Wilson, will be active for the game.
In 2019, Siemian made one start for Gang Green before spending the 2022 season with the Chicago Bears. He later joined the Cincinnati Bengals in the offseason and was released on August 29.
The signal-caller recorded 7,207 pass yards for a 58.9 completion percentage along with 42 touchdown passes as well as 28 interceptions. Throughout three preseason matches, he went 36-of-65 passing for 316 yards for two interceptions.
Aaron Rodgers injury update
After tearing his Achilles in his debut match with the Jets in Week 1, Aaron Rodgers has been recovering faster in comparison to others. He was spotted walking without crutches after a few days of the potential season-ending blow.
At the start of November, the four-time MVP gave a potential hint about his comeback by posting a clock image on his Instagram along with the caption, “A little more time”. Days ago, he boldly said he was “ahead of the schedule”.
Though A-Rod had been tight-lipped about the exact timeline of his return to action, Jay Glazer of Fox Sports revealed the signal-caller is eyeing to start practice as soon as December 2, via NBC Sports. The reporter said the 10-time Pro Bowler raised the eyebrows of the Jets squad by sending them his workout video, where he seemed pretty fit.
Meanwhile, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported a day ago that the dual-threat is going to resume play in Gang Green’s Week 16 game against the Washington Commanders. The timeline of his return came just days after he debunked the NBC Sports reporter Melissa Stark’s claim about his mid-December return.
