The debate of who is the soccer GOAT continues to wage on, with one half of the fanbase choosing Cristiano Ronaldo and the other his eternal rival, Lionel Messi. Many fans continue to voice their opinion on who is the GOAT including many professionals of the game as well. The debate continues to rage on, with many different opinions on the matter. Many have different reasons for choosing their GOAT and for admonishing each other.
Recently, another soccer legend weighed in on his opinion in the debate. Former Italian soccer player and manager Fabio Capello recently gave his opinion on the matter at the Laureus World Sport Awards. According to GOAL, he chose Lionel Messi over Ronaldo, saying, “Ronaldo is a great player. He won titles, he won the Ballon d’Or, but as I said before, it’s not as great as how Messi has been. For me, if you talk to me about Cristiano Ronaldo or Messi, I will say Messi.”
He further labelled Ronaldo as not being a genius, though he appreciated his many talents, “Ronaldo is a great scorer, shoots, does everything, knows how to do everything, but he is not a genius. Very simple.” This may not sit well with many of the Portuguese striker’s fans, who will argue their GOAT is a genius.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s season so far
Cristiano Ronaldo is still going strong at the age of 39 for both club and country. He is plying his trade for Saudi Pro League club Al Nassr for whom he has had impressive numbers. He has scored 36 goals and provided 12 assists in just 37 games so far this season, though his team is nowhere near winning the Saudi Pro League and has been knocked out of the Saudi Super Cup.
He is also heavily involved in the Portugal national team and is expected to captain them once again in the upcoming Euro tournament in the summer. Overall, he has had a brilliant season and will look forward to winning a trophy if possible.
Cristiano Ronaldo will now prepare for his next game with Al-Nassr, which is against Al Khaleej on Sunday.
