Iyo Sky set to defend her WWE Women’s Championship title vs Asuka on WWE SmackDown

On the latest edition of WWE SmackDown, former WWE Women’s Champion Asuka made her return, costing the current Women’s Champion, Iyo Sky, her tag team match. It appears that The Empress of Tomorrow is back to reclaim the Women’s championship that she lost weeks ago to Bianca Belair back at SummerSlam.

The Empress had to defend her title against Charlotte Flair and Bianca Belair in a Triple Threat match, which was eventually won by The EST of WWE. However, she had little time to celebrate as Damage CTRL member Iyo Sky seized the opportunity to cash in her Money In The Bank contract on the newly crowned champion and ended up winning the match against an already exhausted Belair, becoming the new Women’s Champion.

Iyo Sky set to defend her WWE Women’s Championship title vs Asuka

On WWE SmackDown this week, Iyo Sky teamed up with Charlotte Flair and Shotzi to face their opponents in a tag team match, accompanied by her stablemate, Bayley. This opening match of the show marked The Empress of Tomorrow’s televised return to WWE following several weeks of absence.

During their match, Asuka appeared at ringside and took Iyo Sky’s Women’s Championship. This distraction proved costly for Damage CTRL, as they lost the match to Charlotte and Shotzi.

Following their defeat, Asuka and Sky stood face to face in the ring, with the championship lying between them on the mat. It appears that The Empress of Tomorrow has her sights set on the gold.

It was later announced that Iyo Sky would be defending her championship against the returning Asuka. Following Sky’s championship win at SummerSlam, Asuka made one last appearance on the August 11 edition of SmackDown, where she faced Charlotte. Their match ended in a no-contest as they were both attacked by members of Damage CTRL.

Since then, The Empress has been absent from WWE Television. It would make sense for her to target Iyo Sky right after returning, as she never received her rematch after losing the title. It’s also worth noting that the two women have never faced each other in a match before.

When is the Iyo Sky vs Asuka WWE Women’s Championship match?

On WWE SmackDown this week, Asuka made her return after a long absence of several weeks. The Empress of Tomorrow cost Iyo Sky her match against Charlotte and Shotzi and stared her down, sending a message that she has her sights set on the championship gold.

Iyo Sky and Asuka

It was later announced that Iyo Sky would be defending her championship against Asuka on WWE SmackDown two weeks from now. There is certainly enough time to build up their feud, as the two women are set to confront each other next week.

While no other matches are confirmed at this time, the 16-time World Champion, John Cena, may also make an appearance on the September 22 edition of WWE SmackDown, which is two weeks from now. Cena couldn’t appear this week, but he has been confirmed for next week’s episode of SmackDown.

Stay tuned for further updates on the match card for the September 22 edition of WWE SmackDown.
