In the January transfer window, Jadon Sancho agreed to a loan move back to Germany to rejoin Borussia Dortmund for the rest of the season, leaving Old Trafford. The winger has now scored his first UEFA Champions League goal since 2021 after being sidelined at Manchester United for various reasons.
The 23-year-old netted a superb strike from outside the box, putting his side 1-0 up in the 3rd minute against PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League Round of 16 second-leg clash at Signal Iduna Park on Wednesday. The hosts doubled their advantage, with Marco Reus getting the second goal of the night.
The Germans have advanced to the quarterfinals of the competition with a 2-0 home win and 3-1 on aggregate, knocking out the Dutch outfit. Sancho spoke after the win, expressing his gratitude to Dortmund and sharing his thoughts.
He said, “I’ve always got a special place for Borussia Dortmund, this is where I kind of made my name. I’ve got to be grateful to them, but also to my teammates, just for believing in me. I’m just happy that we got the win today. we always had the advantage because we’re playing in front of our home fans.”
Jadon Sancho injury update
The Manchester United loanee was forced off for a substitution just 15 minutes later in the second half, with a potential injury scare, after scoring his second goal on loan in the European last-16 fixture against Eredivisie rivals PSV.
Jadon Sancho has made 10 appearances for BVB this season and confirmed during the post-match interview that he felt some discomfort in his hamstring.
And chose not to risk further injury, immediately asking to be replaced. The severity of the injury is yet to be assessed, and further reports are awaited.
Sancho has been an injury-prone player throughout his career and has suffered prolonged absences at Manchester United due to a lack of fitness and regular injury crises. However, since January, he has only missed a single game, Dortmund’s match against Heidenheim in February, due to muscle problems.
