Manchester United concluded 2023 with a defeat to Nottingham Forest in their last league outing, prompting a harsh assessment from Erik ten Hag. Consequently, the club is eyeing January transfers to add much-needed reinforcements to the squad.
Jadon Sancho is one of the prominent names that the club is looking to offload, with the new management taking over club operations following the approval of a 25% share acquisition by IENOS Group, led by Sir Jim Ratcliffe. The English winger made a shocking appearance on the club calendar.
Jadon Sancho makes surprise calendar appearance
Jadon Sancho had a feud with the Dutch boss Erik ten Hag during the early days of the season. After his efforts in training were called out by the manager, he stated that it was one of the reasons for his exclusion from the team squad. However, the winger’s response further fueled the fallout.
Consequently, the Englishman was officially axed from the first team by the club after refusing to apologize to the manager. Since then, he has been absent from the team, not playing a single minute in the past four months. The 23-year-old’s last appearance came against Forrest in August.Â
This season, Sancho has played only 76 minutes in three substitute appearances. His aspirational move to Old Trafford from Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund in 2021 didn’t live up to expectations, as he has struggled with fitness to find his top form, managing only 86 appearances in the last three years.
Amid the uncertainty around his future at the club, the forward made a surprising appearance on the Manchester United calendar, featuring as the January Player of the Month and flagging off the new year 2024 as the January poster boy for January.
Jadon Sancho reportedly attracting interest from Bundesliga
Jadon Sancho amassed disappointing figures, scoring only 12 goals during his stint till now. With the bleak possibility of his return to the playing eleven and getting regular minutes, the former Dortmund star is likely to part ways with the Red Devils, with a possible return to Germany on the cards.
Recent reports speculate about Jadon Sancho’s potential return to Borussia Dortmund in a swap deal. His former club has shown interest in bringing the Englishman back, and alongside Dortmund, another German side, RB Leipzig, is also in the mix to acquire his services.
Additionally, Juventus has been in contact with Manchester United ever since his expulsion from the squad, discussing a potential loan move to Turin and a permanent deal in the future. It will be interesting to see which club will be Sancho’s next possible destination.
