The devastating loss of Jarvon Coles has sent shockwaves through the community of Humble, Texas, and beyond. The promising high school football player was tragically shot and killed at a party on March 9th.
According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to reports of underage drinking at a rental home in Humble, where they discovered Coles in critical condition. He was initially thought to be suffering from a seizure, but it was soon revealed that he had been fatally shot in the chest. Coles later succumbed to his injuries shortly after arriving at the hospital.

Coles had garnered acceptance from 15 colleges and was set to pursue his passion for football at Lamar University. Family friend Domenique Mitchell spoke of his exemplary nature, saying, “He was the type of person that everybody should strive to be like.”
Tributes poured in from the community, with Kyle Herridge, an assistant coach, expressing the profound impact Coles had on the North Shore football program. Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee and Houston Mayor John Whitmire recognized Coles’ contributions by declaring March 16 as “Jarvon Coles Day” to honor his memory and legacy.
The outpouring of support was evident as hundreds gathered to bid farewell to Coles at his funeral. The community remains united in seeking justice and accountability, and the Harris County Sheriff’s Office is trying to find any information that might lead to accountability for his death.
