Jalen Ramsey takes sly dig at Vic Fangio after Dolphins release Xavien Howard

Following an impressive regular season where the Miami Dolphins concluded with a 11-6 record, hopes were high for a successful Super Bowl run, which later shattered in the playoffs. The disappointing outcome not only led to the dismissal of Vic Fangio but also paved the way for Anthony Weaver to step into his role.

It is uncertain what the future holds for crucial players such as Xavien Howard in the middle of these changes. The Dolphins’ brass has sent mixed signals, but Howard’s legion of fans are still rooting for the veteran cornerback to win Super Bowl LIII with his current team.

Dolphins will cut Xavien Howard

The Dolphins have reportedly informed cornerback Xavien Howard that he will be released at the start of the league year. This decision follows the release of veteran defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah on Friday, signaling a shift in the team’s roster strategy.

Making Howard a post-June 1 cut would result in significant cap savings of $18.5 million for the Dolphins. After a successful eight-season stint with Miami, Howard is poised to enter free agency in the upcoming offseason. His agent, David Canter, expressed the impact Howard could have on any NFL team while stating the rarity of acquiring a lockdown corner in the market.

“@Iamxavienhoward makes every team in the national football league an instant contender. Lockdown corners don’t hit the market often,” he wrote, per Bleacher Report.

Despite Howard’s involvement in various off-field incidents, including recent accusations from Denisha Owens, the decision to release him is likely linked to contractual considerations.

In the 2023 season, the 30-year-old demonstrated his defensive prowess with 45 tackles, 12 pass breakups, and one interception in 13 games, all of which he started.

Jalen Ramsey rips Vic Fangio

Jalen Ramsey expressed his discontent with the reported decision to release Xavien Howard from the Dolphins. In a heartfelt post on X, Ramsey voiced his belief that Howard stands as the greatest cornerback in Dolphins history. Ramsey expressed deep admiration for Howard and considered it an honor to share the field with such a talented player.

However, Ramsey’s remarks take a concerning turn at the end of the post, as he suggests that the former defensive coordinator, Vic Fangio, failed to effectively leverage the full skill set of two All-Pro caliber cornerbacks.

“Shid be crazy how stuff plays out sometimes but 1 thing ikno fa sho is that it was an honor teaming up with the GREATEST corner in @MiamiDolphins History in my opinionI won’t ever forgive dude for not utilizing our full skillset!),” he wrote in his X account.

Over his eight-year NFL career, all spent with Miami, Howard amassed an impressive 29 interceptions.  Notably, he led the league in interceptions in both 2018 with seven interceptions and in 2020 with 10 interceptions.

What’s your opinion on the Dolphins’ decision regarding their All-Pro cornerback?
