Jamahal Hill was cage side at the highly anticipated main event of UFC 295 at MSG between Czech Republic’s Jiri Prochazka and Brazil’s Alex Pereira. Hill, who is nursing his ruptured achilles, vacated the UFC light heavyweight title that Prochazka and Pereira fought for.
Interestingly, it was Prochazka who first vacated the title when he suffered a gruesome shoulder injury. Jan Blachowicz and Magomed Ankalaev then fought for the vacated title but the fight ended in a split draw which paved the way for Hill to win the title against former champion Glover Teixeira at UFC 283.
Jamahal Hill plans to knock out Alex Pereira
Jamahal ‘Sweet Dreams’ Hill is the first alumni from the Dana White Contender Series to win a UFC title when he defeated Glover Teixeira at UFC 283 in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The title was vacated by Jiri Prochazka who had won the title from Teixeira at UFC 275 in Singapore.
At UFC 295, Pereira defeated Jiri by a second-round TKO and in the post-fight interview with Joe Rogan, called out Israel Adesanya. “Adesanya, come to Daddy”, Pereira uttered in English concluding his interview. Izzy and Poatan have a history that spanned from their time at Glory Kickboxing where he went 2-0 against “The Last Stylebender”.
The callout did not interest Adesanya and the UFC CEO, Dana White, in the post-fight press conference ensured that Hill was next for Pereira. Hill on his YouTube channel shared what he thought about the event and also voiced his dissent for Pereira’s callout of Adesanya. Moreover, he also gave an early prediction of his presumed fight against Pereira.
“Y’all think he’s just this otherworldly guy because he did kickboxing and I didn’t do kickboxing. You know this is a completely different sport. Kickboxing is kickboxing. MMA is MMA. I’ve been doing MMA for years. I’ve been bred in MMA, and whenever I do fight him standing, I will knock him out.”, said Hill on his YouTube channel.
Hill leaks Israel Adesanya message
Israel Adesanya is at present on a self-imposed hiatus after he lost the UFC middleweight title to Sean Strickland at UFC 293 in Australia. The loss was after he reclaimed the title he lost to Pereira at UFC 287. After Alex Pereira called him out at UFC 295, Adesanya was not interested in it and even jokingly trolled Pereira online for the callout with the picture of an outcold Pereira from their last meeting inside the octagon.
Interestingly, Jamahal Hill on his YouTube channel told about the social media interaction he had with Adesanya after Pereira’s callout. “For anybody worried about Izzy and all this and that he might jump the line, Izzy already messaged me. He messaged me the same night that it happened and he told me, ‘He’s all yours.’ said Hill on his podcast.
Hil further added, “Yeah, all mine. Alex is nobody’s. It’s right here, bro. It’s right here. There is nobody else. It’s just me. There’s no other interference or nothing. It’s just me. I’m the only thing that you have to worry about.” Jamahal is adamant about fighting Pereira very soon.
Pereira in his interview actually clarified that the reason he did not call out Hill was due to him not knowing the extent of Hill’s injury. Hill has not provided a timeframe of when he will recover to full fitness as of yet. Nevertheless, the UFC has already stated on record that Jamahal Hill would get the title shot next.
