Las Vegas is getting ready to host the prestigious event for the very first time. Meanwhile, Raiders defensive end Janarius Robinson found himself in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons.
What potential punishment does Janarius Robinson face?
Janarius Robinson was arrested on a Tuesday morning near the 3700 block of South Las Vegas Boulevard, per FOX5. The charge against him is listed as DUI of alcohol and/or controlled or prohibited substances, a first offense. It is classified as a misdemeanor, according to Las Vegas Justice Court records.
The veteran’s punishment may vary depending on the jurisdiction and the circumstances surrounding his arrest. Typically, penalties for a first-offense DUI can include fines, license suspension, attendance at alcohol education programs, probation, and possibly even jail time. The footballer was released on his own recognizance. However, he is scheduled to appear in court on June 6 at 8 a.m., as per court records.
The DE’s arrest comes at a time when Las Vegas is busy with Super Bowl pre-festivities. The Kansas City Chiefs are going to face off against the San Francisco 49ers at Allegiant Stadium on February 11. To add an insult to the injury, Robinson’s arrest took place just a few miles away from the stadium.
However, Janarius Robinson’s legal trouble isn’t the only incident ahead of the Super Bowl event. Former MLB player Patrick Mahomes Sr., father of Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, also hit the headlines for legal troubles. The Mahomes Sr. was arrested for driving while intoxicated on Saturday night in Texas.
Have Raiders reacted to DE’s arrest?
The Raiders confirmed their awareness of the incident, but they refrained from offering further commentary. The team said in a statement that they would continue to gather information.
“The Raiders are aware of an incident involving Janarius Robinson last night. The club is in the process of gathering more information”, the statement said per Bleacher Report.
The timing couldn’t be worse for Janarius Robinson. Despite joining the team’s practice squad just last year, he was starting to make an impact. The veteran recorded eight tackles and a sack across six appearances during the regular season.
The DE signed to the Raiders practice squad on August 31st of last year. Originally, the Minnesota Vikings selected him in the fourth round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He enjoyed a brief tenure with the Philadelphia Eagles in his rookie season after being waived by the Vikings. However, his career as a starter began for the Raiders in 2023. The vet has one year as well as $985,000 remaining on his deal with the Raiders. The contract will run through the 2024 season.
