Jason Kelce is probably one of the most loved players in the entire NFL community. The way he carries himself on and off the pitch and his tireless work ethic have made the 36-year-old a heartthrob for Eagles fans all across the country.
Over the years, Kelce has built a legacy that only a few players will be able to surpass. However, in the twilight of his career, the defensive maestro is now looking to slow down and hang up his boots. In a recent chat with NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal, the two discussed life after retirement. Let’s find out more.
NBA legend Shaq shares candid advice for Jason Kelce
Shaquille O’Neal seems like one of those people you can effortlessly have a conversation with about anything on the face of the planet, and that is probably what Jason Kelce thought as well while heading for an appearance in Shaq’s “The Big Podcast.”
In due course, the conversation veered towards the retirement rumors for the NFL veteran doing the rounds on social media. Jason Kelce then proceeded to ask the NBA legend for his advice on retiring from the game. Shaq had some choice words to deliver.
According to Sports Illustrated, he said, “My advice to you is if you’re going to retire, accept it, and enjoy your family brother. I made a lot of dumb mistakes to where I lost my family and I didn’t have anybody. That’s not the case for you so enjoy your beautiful wife, enjoy your beautiful kids and never dwell on what we had.”
“What we had is what we got, ” Shaq continued, “You got the ring, people know who you are, enjoy it. Because again, I was an idiot, I’ve talked about it for a long time. I lost my family and now I’m in a 100,000 square foot house by myself.”
Will Jason Kelce return for the 2024 NFL season?
After leading the Philadelphia Eagles to yet another relatively successful season, Jason Kelce has now openly come out and said that he is considering retirement from the sport to spend more time with his wife, Kylie Kelce, and their three daughters.
In the podcast with Shaq, Kelce talked about his retirement plans. While he hasn’t released an official statement just yet, he said that he might need a little bit more time to arrive at the right decision.
“Still figuring it out,” Kelce told Shaquille O’Neal on Monday. “I think if I still want to play, I’m going to play. I think right now we’re not far enough away from the last game. It’s emotional, it’s a long season, the end of the season quite frankly, awful. So I’m just going to take some time, rest, recoup and then figure it out.
