During the 2024 Super Bowl, wrestling fans took notice when Jason Kelce of the Philadelphia Eagles celebrated their victory in Super Bowl LVIII by wearing a Rey Mysterio mask. This lively celebration caught the attention of both National Football League and sports entertainment enthusiasts.
However, after the game, rumors started circulating about Kelce’s interest in joining the WWE. Fans were eager to learn more about Kelce’s wrestling connection, even though the Luchador mask was borrowed for the celebration.
Jason Kelce addresses his Rey Mysterio mask choice
The lucha libre mask that Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce wore during the Chiefs’ Super Bowl celebration was a show-stopper. The lighthearted gesture by the 6’3″ tall Kelce resembled a larger-than-life replica of WWE icon Rey Mysterio.
Interestingly, the mask wasn’t really Kelce’s; it belonged to eighth grader Elijah Smith of Dallas. Smith is now eager to have it back, and the NFL player returned the mask to him. Kelce discussed the mask’s meteoric rise to fame on his podcast, revealing that he found it on the floor at the carnival.
Jason put on the mask without thinking, and now everyone is talking about it online. Despite the spur-of-the-moment choice, Kelce apologized for taking the mask without authorization and even made light of the prospect of getting pink eye.
The humorous story was recalled by him and his brother Travis Kelce on the New Heights podcast as well, where they both brought attention to how the situation was unplanned and how unpredictable celebration antics can be.
Jason said on the podcast, “That’s part of the beauty of this whole thing. It just appeared out of nowhere….I for sure thought I was getting pink eye. There is no chance I thought I was getting out of that mask without having pink eye.”
Kelce brothers urged to appear at WM 40 by The Miz
The Kansas City Chiefs’ Travis Kelce was in the spotlight in December for all the right reasons: his football prowess and his romance with Taylor Swift. With Kelce’s popularity on the rise, WWE’s The Miz has shown interest in bringing both Jason and his brother to WWE.
Taking credit for igniting Travis Kelce’s interest in wrestling, The Miz recognized Kelce’s willingness to join WWE in an interview with TMZ Sports. An apparent link has formed, given that WrestleMania is set to take place in Philadelphia in 2024 and that Jason is an integral part of the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Miz suggested the possibility of the Kelce brothers collaborating for a WrestleMania moment, highlighting their strong work ethic despite being from Cleveland. He referenced meeting NFL star George Kittle at WrestleMania 39.
‘The Awesome One’ noted about Jason Kelce’s NFL retirement, “Jason Kelce. I mean maybe he retire after this year and better way to go out than a match at WrestleMania!”
Though talking about something like this is silly, do you think Jason Kelce will be at WrestleMania in April? Share your opinion in the comment section.
