In the fierce NFC East race, the Dallas Cowboys find themselves locked in a tight battle with the Philadelphia Eagles, a team that recently achieved victory against the reigning champions, the Kansas City Chiefs. In any other division, the Cowboys accomplishments might position them favorably for the top spot.
Keeping aside the divisional ranking, the Cowboys are showcasing incredible performance as they have secured eight wins for only three losses this season. However, Jerry Jones, the Cowboys’ owner and general manager, seems to be frustrated with the Eagles’ superiority over his team.
Jones laments Eagles’ winning streak in tight matches
Jerry Jones has never shied away from expressing his unfiltered opinions about the team’s state and recent challenges. From downplaying the impact of Sam Williams‘ legal troubles to boldly addressing Zack Martin’s penalties, Jones has been forthright in his assessment.
The owner did the same thing while discussing the impact of getting overshadowed by the Eagles in the NFC East. Philly beat the Cowboys 28–23 days ago, and notably, the former team has salvaged close wins over potent teams that Jones’ team failed to capitalize on.
The Eagles marched to a 14-3 regular season record last year, featuring seven wins by one score or less. During his recent interview on 105.3 The Fan, the Cowboys owner was asked about the Eagles continuing to win close games, and his response reflected a mix of understanding and exasperation.
“What have I done to deserve this? Why can’t that ball bounce the right way? All of those things go through your mind”, Jones said via The Spun.
Drawing parallels to Philly’s ability to win by narrow margins last season, the veteran highlighted the impact of close games in shaping a team’s trajectory within the NFL. He acknowledged the multiple perspectives involved in understanding the impact of such outcomes on a team’s overall performance.
“It just reminds me of all of the ways that you are involved and in many perspectives of the NFL, and the impact of games,” Jones added.
The soaring success of the Eagles, led by quarterback Jalen Hurts implementing his unique strategies, has only amplified Jones’ sense of frustration. Despite the Cowboys’ promising moments, their inability to capitalize on critical opportunities has been a cause for concern for the outspoken owner.
Cowboys set to defend 13-game home winning streak vs Seahawks
The Cowboys, currently riding a 13-game home winning streak, have dominated against opponents they were expected to defeat convincingly. Their seven wins, apart from a close 20-17 road victory against the Los Angeles Chargers, have all come by margins of at least 20 points.
Their upcoming clash against the Seattle Seahawks, standing at 6-5 this season, promises to be a significant NFC East rematch. Favored by nine points, according to FanDuel Sportsbook, the Cowboys seek to add another impressive feat to their record against the Seahawks.
Recalling their previous encounter in September 2020, the Seahawks emerged victorious with a 38-21 win over the Cowboys in Seattle. However, with recent contrasting outcomes—the Seahawks suffering a 31-13 Thanksgiving loss to the Niners and the Cowboys securing a dominant 45-10 win against the Commanders—both teams enter this rematch with differing momentum.
However, Coach Mike McCarthy emphasized the team’s focused approach while steering clear of distractions posed by other teams in the division. He highlighted the challenges posed by the Seahawks, acknowledging their strengths and ensuring his team remains focused on the task at hand.
“Seattle is giving us plenty to worry about, plenty to focus on. There’s a lot of length between Seattle and the next one. I don’t see that as an issue at all.”
Despite Dak Prescott facing scrutiny after a challenging outing against the San Francisco 49ers, the star quarterback has rebounded remarkably well. The signal-caller has been on a hot streak, boasting 18 touchdowns and merely two interceptions in the games following the 42-10 loss.
Meanwhile, the Seahawks, coming off two consecutive losses, are eager to bounce back. Signal-caller Geno Smith aims to revitalize the offense after enduring a streak of 20 possessions without a touchdown. To get out of their current state, Smith and the Seahawks would be determined to regain their winning form against the Cowboys.
