Jets HC Robert Saleh claims QB Zach Wilson, OT Mekhi Becton to play NFL Hall of Fame 2023 game vs Browns

Aaron Rodgers headed to the New York Jets after a prolonged tenure with Green Bay Packers and ever since his arrival, the team’s players and fans seem to be eyeing a potential Super Bowl in Big Apple. However, the four-time MVP would likely not be able to show off his skills against the Cleveland Browns in the upcoming game.

The Jets’ head coach Robert Saleh decided to keep Aaron out of the field in Thursday night’s preseason opener. Not just their starting quarterback, the HC declared to keep all starters out of the play due to injury concerns. The Browns and Gang Green play an extra preseason game a week before others, albeit the Browns yet didn’t declare if they are going to follow their rival’s footsteps.

Robert Saleh says Zach Wilson, Mekhi Becton to play NFL Hall of Fame 2023 game

During a discussion with the media after practice, Saleh declared that former first-round draft pick Zach Wilson, as well as Mekhi Becton, are going to play against the Browns in this week’s Hall of Fame game, per Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team.

“#Jets HC Robert Saleh said QB Zach Wilson will play in Thursday night’s Hall of Fame game against the Cleveland Browns. OT Mekhi Becton will also play,” he said in a Tweet.

New York’s coach is already aware of A-Rod‘s caliber and hence, he decided to let the 39-year-old veteran rest till the actual competition kicks off in Week 1’s Monday Night Football showdown against the Buffalo Bills. His decision of not letting the QB play for the seemingly meaningless game against the Browns was potentially a great move due to his past injury records.

The move could also pave the way for Wilson to prove his worth in the team following his failure to establish himself as a long-term starter. The former No. 2 pick failed to moonlight as a hero on the field with his poor record of a 70.9 quarterback rating in 22 games.
