Last week Jey Uso has been been stripped of his distinctive catchphrase, “Yeet,” a term he frequently used to convey either his enthusiasm or resistance. Jey refused to say the “yeet” word in an interview later on that.
WWE encountered challenges due to the trademark conflict surrounding Jey’s “Yeet” catchphrase, leading to the blurring of his “Yeet” shirt in a RAW video package in December 2023. Recently Jey shared a photo on social media revealing that he emerged victorious in the trademark dispute over his popular catchphrase “Yeet.”
Jey Uso and WWE overcome “Yeet” trademark battle
Jey Uso started using the term “yeet”, which gained prominence in WWE from March 2023. Recently Uso was restricted to use the term “yeet” due to a trademark issue on the word. WWE started to hide the word from his merchandise and announced a new merch for Uso.
The “yeet” had been trademarked by fellow wrestler Kasey Huffman back in 2021. Huffman, based in West Virginia, asserted that he had been using the phrase since 2019 and held the rightful ownership.
Consequently, the wrestling organization ceased using the term and associated merchandise in connection with Jey going forward. Undeterred, WWE decided to actively pursue the retention of his signature phrase. He initiated negotiations with Huffman and proposed a deal to purchase the trademark.
Jey, in turn, expressed gratitude for Huffman’s cooperation and officially announced his acquisition of the “Yeet” trademark on Instagram. Uso added “It’s Back” to the photo featuring the “yeet” merchandise. Jey celebrated his triumph by sharing multiple “Yeet” tweets and proudly donning his “Yeet” shirt in the subsequent RAW episode.
The response from fans was significant, with chants of “Yeet” echoing in support. Jey conveyed his happiness at reclaiming his catchphrase, emphasizing his intention to continue using it as a means of expressing energy and enthusiasm.
Jey Uso’s next feud revealed
Jey Uso and Drew McIntyre have a long and bitter history, dating back to November 2020, when Jey was part of The Bloodline, the dominant faction led by his cousin Roman Reigns. Jey interfered in several matches between Reigns and McIntyre, costing McIntyre the WWE Universal Championship and the WWE Championship on different occasions.
McIntyre never forgave Jey for his actions, and vowed to get his revenge on him. After the Survivor Series wargames match the rivalry became worse as recently McIntyre attacked Uso during the World Heavyweight Championship match against Seth Rollins. McIntyre was clearly not happy about Jey getting an opportunity for the title.
Jey, on the other hand, had a change of heart in September 2023, when he left The Bloodline and turned face, after being mistreated and abused by Reigns for months. He apologized to McIntyre and the fans for his past mistakes, and said that he wanted to start fresh. WWE announced that McIntyre and Jey will be competing in a one on one match at next week’s Monday Night Raw.
