Joan Laporta believes Kylian Mbappe signing for Real Madrid is a problem but not for Barcelona

There’s a transfer game going on right now, and Kylian Mbappe is the star of the show. The Frenchman has managed to keep his name in the headlines for the past few months, and this may continue to be the case until after his move to Real Madrid is official, or at least till all parties involved make a statement, confirming this impending free transfer to Spain.

Despite the distractions from all angles, Kylian Mbappe has managed to maintain his focus, still scoring goals for PSG, including the ones that helped the club secure a quarter-final spot in the UCL, where they’ll be facing Barcelona in a two-legged tie. Barcelona’s president Joan Laporta has also weighed in on this impending transfer in a recent interview.

Joan Laporta comments on Kylian Mbappe’s reported Real Madrid move

Kylian Mbappe’s summer move to Real Madrid will definitely strengthen the Los Blancos. They’re already the best team in La Liga, with Jude Bellingham, Vinicius Jr., and Rodrygo leading the attacking charge. Still, when you throw Kylian Mbappe in the mix, you’ll have one of the deadliest attacking units the world has ever seen.

While Real Madrid are busy getting ready to dominate the world, Barcelona have only found themselves in several off-field issues, including the financial crisis and corruption allegations. Former Real Madrid and Barcelona star winger Luis Figo even said that the Catalans should be punished duly if found guilty of those corruption charges.

This may have contributed to the negative remark Joan Laporta made of Mbappe’s move to Real Madrid, with many fans claiming the club president is just jealous of his rival’s progress. “They have a problem there,” Laporta said.

“You have to sell a player if Mbappe arrives, right? Because they’re not going to play in the same place and are also very marked players. And speaking of the figures there will be in his salary, this distorts the locker room for sure; that’s not a gift,” he added.

Kylian Mbappe’s Real Madrid salary

While Laporta thinks Mbappe’s salary may cause discord in the dressing room, the club reportedly has it covered. Earlier reports suggested that Real Madrid will be paying Mbappe less than what they offered the last time and definitely less than what he’s currently earning at PSG.

Although he’ll still be Real Madrid’s highest earner, the figure won’t be that far from what Toni Kroos and Luka Modric are earning.

Mbappe has reportedly signed a five-year deal at Real Madrid that will keep him at the club until 2029. He will also reportedly be given the No. 10 shirt, with Modric looking most likely to be moved on from the club.

The Frenchman will be announced as a Real Madrid player on July 1, as soon as his contract at PSG expires in June, which will be one of the biggest unveiling events football has ever seen.
