John Cena, the 16-time WWE World Heavyweight Champion, maintains a unique social media presence. On Instagram, he shares context-free posts, encouraging followers to interpret them independently. Conversely, on Twitter, he imparts motivational quotes to inspire his audience.
In a recent interview, Cena clarified that they are active on Twitter but not on Instagram, deeming Instagram as a more selective and artistic platform, while Twitter is better suited for initiating conversations.
John Cena reveals why he follows fans back on Twitter
John Cena has a distinctive social media presence. On Instagram, he posts content that is mostly out of context, leaving it up to his followers’ imaginations to interpret. On the other hand, his Twitter account is a platform where he shares motivational quotes to inspire people. During an interview with Chris Van Vliet on his “Insight” podcast, John Cena revealed that he gets inspiration for his quotes from others and the things he sees and hears.
“I try to seek wisdom from others. I try to read a lot. If anything catches my ear or my eye, I jot it down. I have so many backlogs in my Twitter drafts. It’s almost like a journal. I mean… It’s not like every day I have one, but there’ll be some days where I’m just thinking about stuff, and I’ll write down a bunch of notes. So essentially, my Twitter drafts are my notes,” said Cena.
During a discussion regarding his Twitter account, Cena disclosed that his tweets assist him in being accountable for his actions.
“And I’ll have these incomplete thoughts that don’t make any sense, and I’ll try to understand what I’m thinking that day. And then I’ll come back to it and it’ll come to me. Then I’ll, ‘Yeah. All right. That’s kind of how I’m feeling.’ Or, man, a lot of it is the advice I could use for the day.
“So, if I was too short or unempathetic or if I’m having a hell of a day and I want to give up and throw the towel in, a lot of it is advice that I could use. And a lot of it is me holding myself accountable for the behavior that I say that I do. Because once you put it out to the world…Uh… Well, Twitter, X is probably isn’t the best example of accountability, but I’d like to put it out there so I can be accountable for it,”John Cena added.
Cena follows everyone on Twitter but no one on Instagram, as he sees Instagram as a more interpretative or curated app, while Twitter is a conversation starter. Cena stated that being verified is not a foolproof way to gain followers, but it is a good way to do so. He also mentioned that one does not learn much by being surrounded by people who agree with them.
“And how do you start a conversation? You follow everyone. People you know nothing about, walks of life you know nothing about, people who don’t share your beliefs, people who speak out harshly against your value system, people who live within your value system. People who’ve pissed you off—like I said, you follow everyone because then people can engage with it,” Cena concluded.
