John Cena is seeking to “accomplish” more success in WWE, hinting at potential clash with Roman Reigns

Ever since John Cena returned to WWE after finishing his queued Hollywood projects, he has been very active in both WWE brands. However, the leader of Cenation has not been like his prime self in his latest run, as he is mostly seen in the defeating end even against young superstars like Solo Sikoa.

Despite having such a harsh situation in WWE for the past few years, the superstar revealed in a recent appearance that he still has great future plans for his WWE career.

John Cena talks about his WWE future

Since the past few months, Cena has been very consistently appearing in WWE shows despite having a tight schedule, as he is also a Hollywood actor. Sadly, the superstar recently revealed that he has not won any singles match for the last few years. However, the leader of Cenation has recently provided a little insight into his future in WWE.

On the 200th episode of “WWE After the Bell” with Corey Graves, John Cena made a special appearance to celebrate the show’s success. During his visit, the 16-time WWE champion talked about his future goals in WWE and responded to a fan’s perspective on his WWE future. He mentioned that fans would like to see him achieve either his 17th WWE Championship title or capture the Intercontinental title, which he hasn’t won yet.

“The great thing about WWE is, there’s always another show. There’s always something to accomplish. I think individuals tend to look at it selfishly. Can I win a 17th championship? I haven’t won the Intercontinental Championship. I want to win another Money in the Bank, I want to win another Royal Rumble,” said John Cena.

However, the way Cena sees his future in WWE is quite surprising. The leader of Cenation mentioned that he would like to make Roman Reigns a more phenomenal performer in the eyes of fans or he could train Austin Theory to become a big name in the company. He also stated that he will give his best to perform as long as he is able to do so physically.

Cena said, “It could be like, I’d like to help Roman Reigns become a larger global phenomenon. I would like to be Austin Theory’s mentor. I would like to do as many live events as I possibly can because physically I’m able to do them, and just give the yield of trying to give whatever I have left to an audience that cares while they care”.

John Cena and Roman Reigns rivalry

On the current WWE roster, only a handful of superstars have had intense rivalries with John Cena. One of them is the Undisputed Universal Champion, Roman Reigns.

The Tribal Chief and the leader of Cenation have sporadically clashed for the past decade. While their rivalry may not reach the level of intensity seen in The Rock and Cena’s feud, it has paved the way for Reigns to establish himself as a dominant force in WWE.

The first encounter between Roman Reigns and John Cena took place in 2013 during an episode of Monday Night Raw. At that time, Reigns was part of The Shield faction alongside Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose.

During that episode, the trio launched a brutal assault on Cena, Ryback, and Sheamus, leading to a tag team match at Elimination Chamber 2013. Cena, Ryback, and Sheamus suffered a defeat in that match. However, this storyline concluded with Roman Reigns defeating Cena in June 2013.

This victory was a significant milestone for the Head of the Table as he was just starting his career in WWE.

Their second encounter was in 2014 during the Money in the Bank ladder match, where they both exchanged blows for a few minutes consecutively. After that, Cena and Reigns had a bout at the No Mercy 2017 event, which resulted in the victory of the Anoa’i family member.

However, 2021 was the year when they got a proper storyline for having a rivalry. In the 2021 Money in the Bank event, John Cena interrupted Roman Reigns during his promo after The Tribal Chief successfully defended his title. This started a rivalry that continued until SummerSlam 2021, when the leader of Cenation faced defeat.

At present, John Cena is not directly in any rivalry with Roman Reigns; instead, he has some issues with Reigns’s Bloodline faction member, Solo Sikoa. There is scope for seeing a new rivalry between the stars if WWE wants to initiate the prospect.
