John Cena’s SmackDown return sparks speculation of Bray Wyatt showdown

Amid the return of John Cena in September fans are also talking about Bray Wyatt. Wyatt hasn’t been seen on WWE television in the past couple of months. His sudden disappearance from the ring business has resulted in fans losing their interest in the dark-themed story arc. However, it seems like the Eater of Worlds is ready for a blockbuster comeback to the ring.

The next premium live event for the WWE is the upcoming Payback 2023. The WWE Universe is thrilled as Wyatt is expected to face John Cena in that event. However, there is no official statement from WWE regarding his return.

WWE fans buzzing over John Cena’s upcoming SmackDown appearance

The news of John Cena’s return on SmackDown has erupted a blast in the WWE SmackDown. Since WWE announced that John Cena would appear on the September 1 episode of WWE SmackDown, fans have been wondering who could show up to confront the superstar. While there are many opponents available, Cena’s return could bring the return of an absent superstar.

The superstar in question is Bray Wyatt aka The Fiend. Since being taken off TV during his feud against Bobby Lashley, Bray Wyatt has been absent from the ring due to health concerns. However, as per recent reports, the former leader of The Wyatt Family is cleared to return to the Stamford-based tour. If the reports are true, Bray Wyatt returning to confront John Cena would make sense. After all, Bray Wyatt and John Cena share some history, it could become one of the greatest comebacks in the history of WWE. The duo was also involved in the ‘Firefly Fun House’ match at WrestleMania 36, which was enjoyed by the WWE fans.

However, considering these scenarios, it would make great sense for Wyatt to face Jena Cena. A return against the leader of Cenation will help Wyatt since he has been away from the ring for quite some time. Once his appearance against Cena is done, the former world champion could go on and pursue other feuds.

Bray Wyatt cleared for WWE return

Bray Wyatt aka The Fiend is reportedly progressing toward a return after being off WWE programming for the past six months. According to Fightful Select, sources indicated Wyatt is getting “closer” to being medically cleared to return to the squared circle, although that clearance hasn’t been given yet.

One source told Fightful that the creative team of WWE has been discussing Wyatt’s return for as soon as September, although that doesn’t necessarily mean that he will be cleared by that time. Bray Wyatt was shockingly released from his WWE contract in July 2021 despite having been a three-time world champion during his run with the company. Wyatt was essentially completely off the pro wrestling arena for over a year after his release from the company, but he returned in October 2022 when he made an appearance at Extreme Rules.

Over the next few months, Wyatt regularly showed his presence and went to work on developing his new character, which differed from the Firefly Funhouse and Fiend gimmicks he had prior to his release. It wasn’t until the Royal Rumble that Wyatt had his first bout since returning, beating LA Knight in a Pitch Black match. After that, WWE seemed to be building toward a match between Wyatt and Bobby Lashley at WrestleMania 39, but Wyatt suddenly disappeared from WWE in February, and the pitch was dropped. However, The next major event at which Wyatt could possibly return is WWE Payback on September 2.
