Chelsea fans can’t seem to catch a breath anytime soon. Their team has not managed to match expectations after spending more than 1 billion euros in the past three transfer windows. Their poor performances and results on the pitch have affected them very much, as they currently sit in 12th place in the Premier League.
Fans are now also the victims of laughter and trolls from rival fans who are taking the chance to have some fun in this miserable period for the Blues. And now even a rival manager has decided to take part in it.
Klopp’s subtle dig at Chelsea’s misery after summer splurge
It was Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp who decided to have a slight jab at Premier League rivals Chelsea. The Blues have been able to spend a lot of money in past transfer windows, while Klopp’s Liverpool were not able to do the same.
More specifically, two players that Klopp wanted heavily this summer were the defensive midfielders Romeo Lavia and Moises Caicedo. However, both of these players instead decided to join Chelsea, with the latter having a British transfer record. Klopp and Liverpool instead had to settle for Wataru Endo.
In a recent interview, the German manager spoke about the situation and couldn’t help but take a slight jab at the club that took two of his transfer targets. He took advantage of their distance in the Premier League table to make fun of Chelsea and the two players who have not lived up to expectations.
He said, “We had a few strange things happen. Between us, my god were we lucky. We didn’t know that in the moment. Obviously we realised other central defensive midfielders didn’t want to join… then you see what happens!”
Chelsea stumbles into 12th place while Liverpool triumphs in EPL table
Chelsea did show some signs of improvement in the past few matches, managing a draw against both Manchester City and Arsenal. However, they then lost to Manchester United and relegation candidates Everton, which caused much criticism on the team.
The Blues are now 12th in the Premier League with 19 points, and away from any European spot. If things do not improve soon, there could be much trouble for Mauricio Pochettino who has asked for more reinforcements in the winter transfer window.
Liverpool, on the other hand, are flying. Taking advantage of the recent losses to Manchester City and Arsenal, the Reds have managed to become league leaders with 37 points. Furthermore, their team is genuinely one of the best and has shown a winning mentality in recent games. They are definitely one of the contenders for winning the Premier League title. Maybe Lavia and Caicedo are regretting their decisions already.
Liverpool and Chelsea will both face Manchester United and Sheffield United in the Premier League on December 17 and 20, respectively. What will be the outcome of these matches? Make sure to drop your predictions in the comments.
