LeBron James has walked into the 2023-25 season as the oldest active player in the NBA after Andre Iguodala retired and fans knew that the Lakers would be a bit more careful with him this season. Having played more than 54,000 minutes and 20 seasons in the league, LeBron still doesn’t show any signs of slowing down.
Even though he arguably is not as dangerous as he was once before, Bron still poses a threat to many teams and has proved his high worth in a few matches this season. In an interview recently, he said he was playing with ultimate freedom at the Lakers.
LeBron James opens up about playing with freedom at 38
LeBron James expressed himself in an interview where he talked about playing with unprecedented freedom in his 21st season in the NBA. ”Just going up there and just playing freely. I feel like there is nothing I can not do that I did in my twenties out on the basketball floor.”
On being asked what is the motivation behind his relentless drive and the inspiration that allows him to keep his mind fresh and perform at an elite level even at an age where most players prefer to hang up their boots, LeBron said, “ I get a lot of inspiration from my wife, my mom, my family, and friends…and I try to do a good job of sleeping when I am not playing Madden or drinking wine. Actually, I drink wine and play Madden the same time.”
Reaves unveils LeBron James’ impact on Lakers teammates’ confidence
The Lakers have adjusted some of the playing roles in their recent matches after they faced a few losses in the first few games of the season. With the return of key players from injury and the wavering performance of the starters, the roles on the team had some changes.
Austin Reaves who had been performing well in the past seasons was not able to meet the expectations this time and hence head coach Darwin Ham changed the tactics and assigned a coming-off-the-bench role to Reaves. Cam Reddish had replaced him as a starter and the change in tactics worked as the Lakers were able to secure victories after that.
Reaves respected Ham’s decision and appreciated LeBron James as the locker room leader who fills everyone with confidence before the matches.
“With (LeBron James) being so willing to play the game in the right way, just bleeds confidence into everybody,” said Reaves about King James inspiring the squad.
