After ending the season with a 7-10 record while having the top selection in April’s Draft, many believe that the Chicago Bears will draft Caleb Williams to get rid of their starter Justin Fields. Interestingly, Fields himself contemplated the Bears’ future moves well before the season concluded, particularly after the team’s loss to the Green Bay Packers.
Amidst trade speculations linking Fields to the Atlanta Falcons, the quarterback has recently become a focal point of attention for his candid insights on the Detroit Lions’ linebacker Alex Anzalone.
Justin Fields slams LB Alex Anzalone
While appearing on ‘The St. Brown Bros.’ podcast hosted by Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown and his brother Equanimeous, Justin Fields didn’t mince words discussing Alex Anzalone’s on-field actions. Fields criticized Anzalone for what he perceived as a cheap shot during gameplay.
In the podcast, Fields addressed the intensity of the Lions’ aggressive play while claiming that the team has “some dirty players” among their ranks.
“Y’all play harder than most teams. I will say that, y’all play harder and through the whistle, and y’all got some dirty players on your team. I’m not gonna cap.”
When prompted by Amon-Ra St. Brown to specify who he deemed as “dirty” players, Fields didn’t hesitate to name Alex Anzalone. He expressed his discomfort with Anzalone’s actions, mentioning instances where he felt Anzalone crossed the line with unnecessary roughness.
“34 bro, Anzalone, bro. He be doing a little bit too much extra stuff for me, dog. I’m cool with the competitive, I’m cool with that. But all the extra stuff, like I’m cool with all that. Tackle me and get up.”
In response to Fields’ remarks, Amon-Ra St. Brown was quick to defend his teammates. Nevertheless, the Lions’ player later acknowledged his team’s commitment to playing a physical game within the bounds of legality, per SI.com.
Justin Fields reflects on hardest hit of his career
In a recent podcast appearance, Justin Fields reflected on the hardest hit he ever took during his football career. Fields described the impactful moment during his school playoff, specifically recalling a playoff game in his junior year.
He recounted the anticipation of scoring during the first drive of the game on a read option, only to face a formidable player who almost left him unconscious, losing one of his teeth.
“The hardest thing I have ever taken it was in my school playoff. I think it was my junior year second round in the playoffs. I’m not going to lie I thought I was going to score it was like first drive of the game read option.”
” I had one guy to beat I thought I tried yo make a move ln safety. I cut right buddy came from other side of the field like running full speed from other side of the field clocked me earho me. I was on the ground bro I was on the ground with my eyes closed I’m like like I’m thinking a tooth is out of my mouth.”
While Fields reminisced about his past football experiences, his current NFL journey hasn’t been without its challenges. After an impressive rushing performance in the 2022 season, where he amassed 1,143 yards on the ground, Fields faced setbacks in the 2023 season, recording only 657 rushing yards due in part to missing four games due to injury.
While trade speculations have swirled, Fields took a controversial step by unfollowing the Bears on Instagram. Since the start of his trying times, Bears fans have rallied behind their starting quarterback, while Jaylon Johnson also expressed his unwavering faith in the signal-caller.
