Justyn Ross, the Kansas City Chiefs’ wide receiver, began his NFL venture as an undrafted free agent in 2022, but injury woes marred his debut season during the team’s Lombardi trophy-winning campaign. Overcoming the injury setback, Ross resurfaced for the Chiefs this season, only to encounter a new obstacle: his abrupt suspension for off-field misconduct.
The Chiefs struggled noticeably without Ross, particularly evident in their close loss to the Philadelphia Eagles due to their receiver’s missed opportunity. As anticipation grows among Chiefs fans for Ross’s return, recent reports shed light on a potential comeback date.
How long will Justyn Ross be out due to suspension?
Justyn Ross has found himself in the midst of a suspension that raises questions about his future in the NFL. The league suspended Ross for six games due to a violation of the personal conduct policy. This decision followed his arrest earlier in the fall, disrupting what had been a promising season for the undrafted free agent out of Clemson.
The 23-year-old showcased his talent in the Chiefs’ first seven games, contributing three receptions for a total of 34 yards. However, his suspension, coupled with missed games while on the Commissioner Exempt List, casts a shadow over his early career achievements.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter clarified that Ross would be eligible to return after the Chiefs’ game against the Buffalo Bills, having already sat out five matchups during his time on the exempt list.
As Ross returns to the team, he faces the financial repercussions of his suspension, having to remit six game checks he received while on paid leave.
What were the charges against the Chiefs WR?
In a disconcerting incident, Justyn Ross, a former Clemson wide receiver and NFL hopeful, faced legal troubles with his arrest in Shawnee, Kansas, back in October. The charges brought against him include domestic battery, categorized as a misdemeanor with no prior incidents, and criminal damage to property ranging from $1,000 to $25,000, classified as a felony.
An affidavit obtained by TMZ Sports revealed that Ross’s girlfriend reported an assault, citing a small scratch on her hand. She informed authorities that Ross not only physically harmed her but also damaged several of her belongings during the altercation, including jewelry, a cellphone, a laptop, and her Mercedes key.
Ross entered a plea of not guilty to both charges, acknowledging his involvement in breaking a computer but asserting ownership of the damaged items. A subsequent agreement, detailed by Bleacher Report, outlined specific terms and conditions for Ross to follow in exchange for the potential dismissal of the charges.
While the exact terms remain undisclosed, compliance over a predetermined period could lead to the charges being dropped. However, any violation of the diversion agreement may result in a possible conviction for the alleged domestic battery and property damage incidents.
Meanwhile, the Green Bay Packers, led by Jordan Love, let Justyn Ross’s team witness their fourth setback in spite of having the officials’ unwavering support. The 8-4 Chiefs are scheduled to encounter the Buffalo Bills in Week 14.
