Barely a month since Kelly Oubre joined the Philadelphia 76ers from the Charlotte Hornets on a one-year deal. The shooting guard who managed to play just eight games with the Sixers was reportedly involved in a hit-and-run incident close to his new team’s home ground.
The accident reportedly left him with a broken rib, cuts, and lacerations, which has sidelined him from the roster. However, it seems the police are finding it difficult to clarify Oubre’s accident case and now a video footage of the accident’s aftermath has sparked a pool of dilemma.
Police release statement on Kelly Oubre Jr accident case
There have been ongoing investigations by the police to unravel the accident of Kelly Oubre, who was involved in a hit-and-run incident on 11 Nov. 2023, close to Philadelphia’s home ground. The reports by the police stated that the surveillance footage from the reported hit-and-run accident involving Oubre had nothing to show at The Center City Junction, where Oubre had claimed it happened.
Officer Miguel Torres of the Philadelphia police forwarded an email to The Association Press recently, stating that there was no videotape evidence yet. With investigations still ongoing, Coach Nick Sirianni, when asked before Wednesday’s Celtics game if he trusts Oubre’s story, said he had no reason to disbelief his player.
Oubre, who according to the team’s spokesman continues to progress from his injury recovery, is expected to resume his on-court activities in the coming weeks, after he had earlier resumed light physical activities. His Sixers teammate Tyrese Maxey recently dedicated their win against the Pacers to Kelly Oubre. As the investigations are still ongoing, both Kelly Oubre and the 76ers will be glad to get some good news out of the mysterious incident.
Kelly Oubre Jr spotted after the accident
Kelly Oubre whose hit-and-run incident had trapped many emotionally for the past few days, was spotted earlier returning home surprisingly after the incident. Oubre who claimed to be hit by an unknown vehicle, was seen in a TMZ leaked video looking almost in good condition, as he clutched his body and opened his door to the house. A female’s voice could also be heard asking him if the accident was severe, to which he responded to her.
While the leaked TMZ video of Oubre’s privacy might have brought a twist to his claim of being involved in an accident, Oubre ought to be concerned about how TMZ was able to get such a video that exposed his privacy.
Given the fact that there is not much information on the accident’s severity, it’s possible that Oubre was able to leave the accident scene on his strength, and he visited the hospital after returning home. Oubre, in all of this situation, needs to recover properly, so as to showcase his potential on the court for the Philadelphia 76ers after just joining back in September.
