The San Francisco 49ers are facing a contract impasse with wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk. With negotiations at a standstill, Aiyuk’s future with the team remains uncertain, prompting speculation about potential trade destinations. Amid the uncertainty, New England Patriots wide receiver Kendrick Bourne has emerged as a vocal advocate for a reunion with Aiyuk.
Bourne, who previously played alongside Aiyuk in San Francisco during the 2020 season, expressed his enthusiasm for the prospect of teaming up once again with his former teammate. The Patriots player responded to a suggestion that the Patriots should trade for Aiyuk with an emphatic message of support.
“Let’s get ’em! You getting all the targets u want!” Bourne wrote.
Rumors have begun regarding his potential divorce from the 49ers since his girlfriend and close confidant hinted at the possibility of him moving on from the team following their Super Bowl defeat to the Chiefs, though it was dismissed soon by his agent.
Meanwhile, the 49ers receiver added fuel to the speculation by unfollowing the 49ers on Instagram, intensifying rumors of his potential departure from San Francisco.
Brandon Aiyuk’s agent dispels rumors about the receiver’s trade request
Rumors swirled on social media over the weekend, suggesting that Brandon Aiyuk had requested a trade from the 49ers. Nevertheless, his agent, Ryan Williams, quickly dismissed these claims in a social media post.
“You need better sources,” his agent wrote, sharing a post of the rumors.
Despite the denial, Aiyuk’s desire for a new contract has thrust him into the spotlight, with expectations of becoming one of the NFL’s top-paid receivers. On the “Nightcap” podcast in March, the star receiver expressed his determination to receive fair compensation for his contributions on and off the field.
“I’m trying to get what I deserve. I feel like this season, this season playing football, I figured out who I was as a person and a player, what I bring to the table, what I bring to the locker room, what I bring to the organization. And just the value I hold when I walk in that building,” he said.
Reports have surfaced indicating the 49ers’ openness to exploring trade offers for Aiyuk considering new salary cap declaration by the NFL. Yet, general manager John Lynch has affirmed that negotiations for a new deal are ongoing, as per Boston.
