Pep Guardiola offers latest update on Kevin de Bruyne’s Injury

The Premier League never lets anyone bask in the glory of recent success, every win has to be earned with the sacrifice of a good performance or outstanding performances when faced with fierce opponents. Manchester City knows to stand their ground if they must retain the title.

It was a good outing and an outstanding first League game performance for the Citizens. Man City had won the last eleven games against the newly promoted Burnley FC side, and their latest meeting saw a continuation of that impeccable run.

Erling Haaland receives a headed pass from Rodri to net the first goal. In what seemed like a textbook yet technical tap-in, he guides the ball in with his left foot. Shortly after the first goal, Kyle Walker makes a decent run on the right to the edge of the goalkeeper’s box. He delivers a low and short square play into the box; Julian Alvarez receives the pass and lays it up to Haaland, who delivers yet another emphatic finish to the top corner of Burnley’s goal.

Man City claimed an emphatic win against Burnley, beating them three goals to nothing.  However, this glorious start to the season was soured by Kevin de Bruyne’s injury.

Kevin de Bruyne receives the ball at the edge of the Burnley box, but he had to grapple with Conor Roberts, the Burnley full-back, to retain it. He later managed to guide a pass to Erling Haaland, and immediately after, he noticed he’d pulled a muscle. Following this the Belgium national signaled to the technical area, asking to be subbed off.

According to Mirror, Pep Guardiola later confirmed that Kevin de Bruyne, the Belgian Midfield maestro suffered a hamstring problem which would rule him out for months.

Guardiola, speaking at the UEFA Super Cup press conference, stated, “We have to decide if it’s surgery or not surgery, but he will be out for a few months. It will be decided in the next few days. Surgery is surgery. He will be out for three or four months.”

He continued, “The injury for Kevin is a sore blow for us. But at the same time, we have to look forward. The skills of Kevin are irreplaceable, but it’s an opportunity for others, and I’m sure they will take it.”

Manchester City recorded an emphatic victory against Burnley in the 2023/24 Premier League opening game, but despite the win, it was a sour ending. Kevin de Bruyne suffered an injury that may see him out of the team will the end of the year.

Undoubtedly, Kevin is one of the most valuable members of Pep Guardiola’s team. He’s delivered excellently repeatedly, and now he’ll be absent for the rest of the year. Pep clarified that “The injury for Kevin is a sore blow for us,” but this affords other Midfielders like Mateo Kovacic the opportunity to step in and try to become irreplaceable.
