The Phoenix Suns are set to face the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday for the second time. Former Nets star and current Suns player Kevin Durant shared his thoughts when a fan suggested that the Nets could create a tribute video for him.
Durant’s time with the Nets wasn’t the most successful, and it concluded on a sour note as the 14-time All-Star repeatedly requested a trade to leave the team. Consequently, when a fan proposed the idea of a tribute video, Durant did not seem pleased.
Kevin Durant does not want Nets tribute video
Kevin Durant, who recently expressed his desire to be included in the GOAT debate, expressed his views on Nets showing a tribute video of him. The former Nets star came across a post on X (formerly Twitter) that said the Nets could possibly show a tribute video honoring KD for his time on the Nets when he visits the Barclays Center.
Durant was not very pleased with the idea of the Nets presenting a tribute video of him on the night of the Suns vs the Nets. He replied to the post and said, “Please do not, the night will be better without it.” KD’s response can be interpreted in various ways, depending on one’s perspective of the star.
Viewing Durant as a regular person who might appreciate a tribute, his statement could be seen as humility. On the other hand, considering the context of his trade request and potential negative feelings from fans, Durant might be expressing a reluctance to have a tribute, understanding the mixed sentiments surrounding him.
Kevin Durant’s achievements with Nets
Kevin Durant is surely one of the greatest players to ever play in the NBA. However his stint with the Brooklyn Nets wasn’t as successful as his time with the Golden State Warriors. He was also accompanied by great teammates like Kyrie Irving and James Harden. Irving once even admitted that he regretted not achieving greatness with KD and Harden.
Durant led the Nets to the Eastern Conference finals in the 2021-22 season. However, they were dismantled and sent back home by the Milwaukee Bucks led by Giannis Antetokounmpo, who is currently a top-two player in the league. Furthermore, his relationship with the fans and the franchise grew bitter after he requested a trade.
