The case of recruits and families accepting bribe to attend certain colleges isn’t something new. However, the Garnetts were not one to abide by something this unethical.
The former NBA champion, recently appeared on the Dan Patrick Show, where he reminisced a time when an undisclosed recruiter reportedly offered him cash to attend their school. KG disclosed that the incident occurred at his grandmother’s house, where his mother advised him to stay, owing to incessant approach by different recruiters. Shockingly, Garnett disclosed that his grandmother pulled out a shotgun at one of the recruiters when he offered to bribe his family.
KG said, “Life was running so fast at this time, but I had a certain recruiter come see me. And he offered me some cash in front of my grandma. And she went and got her shotgun. She told me ‘Always set the tone with people that you can never be bought. If you can be bought once, you can be bought always.’ That stuck with me forever.”
Kevin Garnett also disclosed that he was offered a lot of cash, and different opportunities for his family, which promised better lifestyles, and a chance for him to meet some powerful people in the world. But it’s evident that the message of his grandmother had a great impact in his life, and he would go on to pave a legendary career for himself.

The reason why Kevin Garnett skipped college to join the NBA, was his incredible on-court results which stunned a lot of people. As a result of his impressiveness, interests from different recruiters skyrocketed for college basketball career.
Kevin Garnett, in his first three years of high school, was a student at Mauldin HS in Mauldin, South Carolina, until a fracas broke out between black and white students, where KG was even arrested for second degree lynching.
Afterwards, Kevin Garnett transferred to Farragut Career Academy in Chicago, and led them to a stunning 28-2 record, and earned the National High School player of the year by USA Today. He was also awarded Mr. Basketball for the state of Illinois after impressive average of 25.2 points, 17.9 rebounds, 6.7 assists and 6.5 blocks while shooting 66.8% from the field.
KG, in his four of high school, was magnificent, with great on-court numbers of 2,553 points, 1,809 rebounds and 737 blocks. Before his NBA 1995 Timberwolves’ draft, he was named the McDonald’s All-American Game, recording incredible 18 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 blocks.
After spending 21 seasons in the league, one of the longest careers in NBA history, Kevin Garnett was able to etch his name among the NBA’s all-time greats, serving as a motivation for young talents in the league.
