Khamzat Chimaev subtly fires shots at Isarel Adesanya amid rumored UFC 300 clash

Khamzat Chimaev, the undefeated UFC superstar, has been inactive since his number one contender fight for the middleweight title at UFC 294. At the UAE PPV event, Chimaev narrowly secured a majority decision victory over former pound-for-pound king Kamaru Usman.

Chimaev has recently indicated his desire to compete at UFC 300 and fight for the middleweight title. Israel Adesanya also shares a similar aspiration for UFC 300, as evident from his social media posts, including the one with the Zack Snyder movie 300.

Khamzat Chimaev takes sly dig at Israel Adesanya

Israel Adesanya posted a training video that showed his improved wrestling which did not go unnoticed by Khamzat Chimaev. “🤣🤣🤣🤣”, commented Chimaev on the video. Adesanya rose to the top of the UFC with his exceptional striking capabilities. However, his wrestling was seen as a weakness but there were no elite wrestlers in the division during Adesanya’s title reign.

On the other hand, Khamzat Chimaev gained recognition in the UFC for his formidable wrestling skills. While Chimaev also exhibited proficiency in striking, it was his exceptional wrestling prowess that contributed significantly to his popularity. The Chechen fighter was initially promised a title shot at UFC 294, but due to injuries, the UFC set up a title fight between Sean Strickland and Dricus du Plessis.

Dricus du Plessis secured the belt from Sean Strickland at UFC 297 and aimed for a title defense at UFC 300 against Israel Adesanya, to which the Kiwi promptly responded. However, the South African displayed hesitation in granting the title shot to Khamzat Chimaev, citing Chimaev’s insufficient victories at middleweight against ranked contenders.

Chimaev was interviewed by ESPN MMA’s Brett Okamoto after UFC 297 and the 9th-ranked middleweight revealed that he was not impressed by either Strickland or du Plessis. The fight between DDP and Strickland was extremely close and that created a lot of controversy on social media.

Israel Adesanya shares wrestling footage amid UFC return

Israel Adesanya in all likelihood could headline UFC 300 against either Dricus du Plessis or Alex Pereira. From appearances, it seems Izzy is destined to headline the prestigious PPV with his heated rival Dricus du Plessis, who already has a contentious history related to their shared African heritage.

The Last Stylebender recently posted a wrestling session on his Instagram, sparking excitement among fans. The Kiwi had taken a self-imposed hiatus after his upset loss to Sean Strickland at UFC 293 before recently making a U-turn.

Adesanya’s recent wrestling session is alluded by many to be a training session to counter du Plessis. The South African has shown off his wrestling in his recent two fights against Sean Strickland and former champion Robert Whittaker.

Another theory circulated by fans is that Adesanya is presumed to prepare for Khamzat Chiamev, the best wrestler in the middleweight division. Nonetheless, Adesanya’s presence at UFC 300 is all but assured due to the video.
